FotodioX NIKG-SNYE-FUSION overview

  • 1Description

Make full use of virtually any Nikon F-mount lens on your Sony E-mount mirrorless camera with the FUSION Smart AF Adapter from Fotodiox. This intelligent lens adapter maintains full electronic communication between Nikon AF-S and AF-I lenses and the camera body in order to afford in-camera aperture adjustment in auto, aperture priority, and program AE modes; relay Exif data between the camera and the lens; and to enable the use of both autofocus and Vibration Reduction technologies for full support of all the lens' features. Autofocus can be used in both high- and low-speed modes, and infinity focus is guaranteed with all F-mount lenses. Additionally, while ideally suited for autofocus-enabled AF-S and AF-I lenses, this adapter also supports working with any legacy F-mount lens as a simple manual adapter. It is constructed from aluminum alloy that is both lightweight and durable, and a baseplate with bottom 1/4"-20 mount is integrated into the design to help support larger, heavier lenses atop a tripod.

Camera Compatibility
Adapter is physically compatible with all Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, including the a7-series, a6000-series, a5000-series, a3000-series, and NEX-series of cameras, among others.

While the adapter will work with all E-mount camera, and support autofocus with compatible lenses, it is best-suited for use on cameras that have phase-detection autofocus, such as the a7, a7 II, a7R II, a6000, a6300, and a6500.
Lens Compatibility
Adapter is physically compatible with all Nikon F-mount lenses, however only AF-S and AF-I lenses can be used in order to use autofocus, Vibration Reduction, Exif data transmission, and camera-based aperture control.

    FotodioX NIKG-SNYE-FUSION reviews

FUSION Smart AF Adapter for Nikon F Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera is rated 1.7 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing I purchased this to attach my Nikon 14-24 mm f2.8 to my Sony A7M2. The first day I tried using this auto focus would sort of work, but there was no rhyme or reason for it working or not working. I was able to get all the other electronic functions to work with the camera. The 2nd day I used this I could not get autofocus to work nor could I get the aperture control to work. This adapter is just to expensive to have these kinds of issues right out of the door, I'm returning mine. I bought it directly from Fotodiox as B and H where out of stock when I bought it. Disappointing that this did not work as advertised.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great first attempt, almost.... I was SO excited when this adapter was announced! Ordered it immediately and received it the day before Thanksgiving. After 5 minutes on my A7S II I was already giving 3 stars in my mind. The Auto-Focus just was not working well at all. I really dig that I can control the aperture with the camera now and the stabilization was working as a native lens would, but the adapter was already lacking. The more I used it the more I noticed other issues popping up. The camera was taking a lot longer to boot up and in a few instances not booting up right at all, requiring me to remove the battery and adapter altogether. After my experience and seeing another horrific youtube video(Killed a A6300) I decided to return the adapter. There is no port for a firmware upgrade..... Very solid attempt by Fotodiox but I think they need another 6 months.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very unreliable I was excited to try this adapter since it's usually only Canon that gets adapters with full AF etc. Having tried this one though, I was quite disappointed. It looks great and is built well but it's very buggy. The AF, if it starts, works ok on my a6300. But often as I was trying to focus, the EVF would briefly go fully white, the lens completely out of focus and then it would try again. Sometimes while doing this, the aperture number would disappear leaving you without aperture control showing only f-- like a non af adapter. Sometimes an quick on/off would fix it but not always. Some lenses definitely work better than others like the Nikon 50mm f1.8, 24-70mm and Tamron 15-30mm. Those had the highest success rates for me but still had the issues occasionally. The Tamron 90mm was unusable beyond a few feet. The Tamron 70-200 was also very unreliable and I had to use the focus ring to get the focus close to being in focus before the AF would kick in. This also happened with my Nikon 70-300 AF-P. My old Nikon 18-55 and 55-200 non VR didn't work at all, the lens didn't even attempt to focus. The biggest issue I see is the lack of a USB port for firmware updates. I think they could definitely make this better but in its current state, I cannot recommend it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This should not be sold. It will destroy your camera This needs to be removed from the BH store right now. It is notorious for destroying cameras with normal use. DO NOT BUY THIS.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Original A7 Camera.... Testing results in good and bad. Mind you, I have t he original A7 camera. Not t he MKII version nor the various R or S variants. Just the plain old A7. I do not know if my results are at all valid if you have one of hte other cameras.... Firs teh bad news, AF does NOT work. basically, at all. It is a failure on the A7 camera. To be fair, Fotodiox never said the adapter would AF with an A7 body, so it is not like they are pulling the wool over our eyes. Now for the really good news... this adapter controls the Aperture in your AF non-G lens.... Yes, a major step forward in adapter design for Nikon users. When using this adapter, and Nikon lens, the adapter opened the lens up for focusing, then set the aperture to the value you set in the camera. This is a major issue for me, and really slows me down to use Nikon lenses on the Sony bodies. I think that for the 1 feature it offers me, it might be worthwhile.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dead on Arrival Does not work at all. Arrived dead only allowing for one f-stop on all lenses and not autofocus at all... nothing. I tried it on three Sony A7 series cameras including the A7RII.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nicely built, but did not work on my A7RII. Much to my disappointment, the Fusion Smart AF Adapter for Nikon F lenses did not work on my Sony A7RII camera, or the A6000 for that matter. It did nothing, did not seem to have any AF connection at all. Considering the hype and PR, I would have thought that quality control would have been more robust. As a pro shooter, this experience did nothing to inspire any confidence in this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed and Frustrated I like everyone else was excited to see this announced, I rushed to buy it even though it was on backorder. By the time it had arrived this product had already amassed negative feedback, but I decided to give it a chance. I slipped it onto my Nikon 14-24mm flipped on my camera and already I could tell it was having problems, no auto focus at all. So I went through a few steps to check then I slipped on my Sony 50mm just to check, no problem there, put the Nikon / Fotodiox combo back on and then my camera started to auto focus,...Allrighty ! I'm willing to give this thing a try, I took with me down to the San Diego Auto Show excited to give it a go. Sometimes it would work for me, but many times I would flip my camera on and just get a black screen. Easily cleared by taking the battery out for a few seconds. There was no rhyme or reason to when or where the auto focus would work for me, very disappointed. The electronic info would work well, I could control the aperture and see the information on the EVF without a problem and when put into Lightroom later on all my information would come through, but I don't think its worth this steep of a price tag. I will give it a little more time but I'm pretty sure I'm returning this product.
