Manfrotto MKELES5RD-BH overview

  • 1Description

The red Element Small from Manfrotto is an ultra-compact aluminum travel tripod designed for use with DSLRs, mirrorless, and compact cameras.

Featuring a "fold up" 5-section traveler design, the Element Small is capable of collapsing down to just 12.6", making it ideal for storage in a suitcase or backpack. But don't let its compact size fool you, this tripod is capable of reaching a maximum height of 52.8", a minimum working height of 14.2", and can support up to 8.8 lb while weighing just 2.5 lb.

With a focus on special features and ease-of-use, the Element Small series features a few special design features that make it a versatile accessory for any image maker. First, the tripod utilizes rubber-coated twist locks which help to maintain an overall slim profile and allow for quick set-up and break-down. Secondly, the Element features a two section center column which gives the user versatility when choosing a working height, especially when vibration is a major concern. Third, each leg features three independent leg positions which are engaged by a spring loaded lock, allowing the user to position each leg separately on uneven terrain.

Additionally, the Element Small includes a dual-lock, Arca-type compatible ball head with quick release plate. The dual-lock design utilizes a large, primary knob for controlling the movement of the ball and a second smaller knob for engaging the 360° independent pan. The head also features a vertical notch for 90° tilts, a 1/4"-20 camera mounting screw, and degree markings on the panning base.

    Manfrotto MKELES5RD-BH reviews

Element Small Aluminum Traveler Tripod (Red) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great affordable travel tripod. This Manfrotto Element Small Aluminum Traveler Tripod is wonderful. It's incredibly versatile, compact, strong, easy it work with. It's great to use when I go for a walk, with a dslr/lens attached, light enough to walk with in one hand. The telescoping center column is removable and the ball head is mountable directly to the center section, and with the legs out all the way it goes down to 5 in. ( 12.3 cm ). The spring loaded hook is also removeable and the removable center column is mountable upside-down so the top of your camera can be lowered to the ground. This tripod also came with removable rock/ice picks, as well as 3 Allen keys/wrenches for any adjustments. The ball head and plate are easy to work with, as well as the twist locks are great. This tripod also even fits perfectly into my Lowepro Passport Sling 3 bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good option for small cameras I chose the Element over the BeFree because of the higher weight capacity, Arca Swiss plate, and twist lock legs. And most important, the ability to remove the center column to get real low angles for time lapse photography. I use the Element with a small DSLR and ultra wide lens, as well as a micro 4:3 camera. I did a YouTube video on how to remove the center column. The Element will support light DSLRs, mirrorless, and high end P&S cameras at it's tallest height without a problem. But is much more stable under windy conditions at the low angles with legs spread. Nevertheless, a great value for the price. The Element was more sturdy than I expected. And, can be modified by removing the center column. The twist locks are fast and easy to use (no pinch). And, the Arca Swiss plate, allows me to use various cameras without changing plates all the time. Thus, 5 stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Tripod - A Few Quirks I originally purchased the Element Traveler Big model but wanted to see if it was worth shedding a couple of pounds and buying the smaller one. The larger model is pictured in grey. Pros: - It is lighter by almost a pound - Folds up smaller - Still very well built (the legs are thinner than the larger model) Cons: - No detachable leg to convert into a monopod - Doesn't get very low to the ground when collapsed (see image) - Not as tall

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I do recommend it to any one that needs a small tripod. It a very practical tripod, you cab carry it with no bulky sense, and will support any 35 camera with ease.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Item Came Faulty, Customer Service No help Product came faulty, and fell apart during first usage, WHILE on a shoot inside NASA for SpaceX's recent Falcon Heavy rocket launch. Literally had to spend crucial time looking for missing pieces that fell off the tripod as I was carrying it inside an active launch complex while I was supposed to be there to photograph a historic rocket launch. Customer service unhelpful because ive been too busy/traveling to file a claim. only several days outside 30 day warranty, and they refuse to correct the issue. Genuinely dissatisfied with quality of product, and quality of customer service on B&H's end. I won't be using B&H as a result moving forward, as you would expect a company to stand behind their products. NOT the case here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great compact tripod! I was looking for an affordable travel tripod for an upcoming trip and this fit the bill perfectly. I wish that the center column could be lowered and that the quick release plate could be attached securely to the camera without the included tool, but other than that, the tripod is great. You can easily add another strip of a rubber adhesive to the top of the plate to create more friction with the camera and avoid the problem. I made a video comparing this tripod to the PrimaPhoto: check it out!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UEjZXVnnns

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not really Arca-Swiss compatible I Like most things about this tripod. It's sturdy, stable, and a 1/2 lb lighter than my previous tripod that reached the same height. I have two very frustrating gripes with the design. 1. The head is not arca-swiss compatible. The bolt protrudes so far up, that it interferes with mosy arca-swiss plates. Thought about using a lens with an arca-swiss foot? You're playing the lottery. 2. Where are we supposed to hold the supplied allen key and the leg spokes? Life would have been so much easier had the bag had a sewn inner pocket or zippered outer pocket. Sure, Manfrotto plates are reasonably priced, but I want to use L-brackets and Arca-type lens feet, and I'm just playing the lottery hoping that they might fit. At least Manfrotto didn't skimp on construction: the bolt costs more than a flat-head hex screw. These two things make me constantly second-guess my decision of investing in this tripod.
