CAME-TV Boltzen overview

  • 1Description

The Boltzen 55W Focusable Fresnel Daylight LED Light from Came-TV is a chip-on-board light source with a 5600K daylight color balance and a high CRI of 96 for accurate color rendering. The fixture has spot-to-flood focusing capability to vary your coverage. The included 4-way barndoors allow you further control of the beam angle. Light intensity is controlled by a dimming knob while settings are indicated on the Boltzen Fresnel's LCD screen. The light is useable worldwide thanks to its 100-240 VAC power adapter but you can also use an optional NP-F970 or a D-tap-equipped battery when AC power is unavailable. CAME-TV Boltzen reviews

Boltzen 55W Focusable Fresnel Daylight LED Light is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing power at great price point -- but not silent Amazing power output for the price. Decent flood to spot spread. Although I wish it were wider and narrower on both ends, still very functional and definitely spreads the light (see power difference in photo). LED power indicator on back says it can go from 1% to 100%, I'd think it more realistic to say 15% to 100%. Falloff at edges of beam is nice. Some rainbow fringing, but not much. That varies with the zoom amount. I'd call it acceptable. Build is decent. SUPER lightweight. Works with Sony NP batteries which is awesome. Barn doors seem solid though not of much use except to prevent lens flare: they do not shape the light at all. Case is useful but you have to take the yoke off every time to pack it. Easy, but you will lose the fiber washers. Doubt that will matter. Do note that the fan DOES make noise. It's quiet, yes. But in a dead silent interview room and a good mic, you will hear it. Not much louder than an average/quiet computer fan. CAME-TV does make a 30w unit with no fan and it is dead silent. Overall a very worthwhile addition to an LED light kit.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from More of an focusable open face & audible Fan noise All in the eye of the beholder. Compared to an Arri 150 or Arri 300 the edges created by barn doors or black wrap patterns placed over front are soft. If using indoors in a closed room, that otherwise silent, fan noise is audible. Could be filtered out in post likely... but that's not always a step that is part of the production chain. Hopefully the next fan-less version will have a better lens. Would be fine on an outdoor shoot where your'e not looking for a pattern effect as it does have a nice kick for its size and power consumption.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great light but there is a word of caution... The light functions exactly as I wished. I use it as a background light, not a backlight, but a light to through patterns on the wall behind an interview. CRI is unimportant in this use in my opinion. Also, the fan noise is negligible. Only the most obnoxious sound person will disagree. :) There is a caution however. I ruined one of my NP batteries in use with this light. ONLY NP batteries with 7.4V and amps 8A (55 watts) will work. Or a cable connected to a v-mount battery. Or, of course, the ac connection supplied. Just a word of caution which isn't listed on the info about this light on the B&H site. Love you B&H but you missed this one. Still I like the light a lot and can highly recommend it. I think the way batteries and led lights work is witchcraft by the way but I'm not complaining.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from BROKE AFTER 1 YEAR today a little boom and than good bye CameTV light. I didn't use it quiet a lot. The light is ok, 55w and focusable fresnel for me work great, also the size and with V mount battery. But today, I don't know what can burn inside, but something happen. The light is dead.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK for the price but has build issues I've now had this light on shoots since November and here's a quick rundown of the pros and cons. Pros: * Form factor * Decent CRI * Cost Cons: * Yoke attachment is poorly built. Without rosettes or similar, it's very difficult to tighten the light down. This issues is made all the more challenging when using the Bowen mount with anything attached. * Bowen mount with a medium softbox causes visible strain on the unit. The push and pull lens housing isn't constructed well enough to handle the additional weight and in my estimation will eventually fail over time. With that in mind, I'm not sure that the Bowen mount is worth it for anything more than a very light modifier. * Lenses and light are of plastic construction. The yoke and barn doors are metal. * The power connector is on the bottom and offers no strain relief for the cable or connector. Mine just failed on a shoot with the pins pulling straight out of the connector. Not a great thing to have happen in the middle of setting up for an interview! * None of my NP series batteries work. You'll need to read the fine print on their site and track down an NP series battery with the following specs: the battery voltage needs to be 7.4V and amps 8A (55 watts). I run mine with the supplied D-Tap cable connected to a v-mount battery.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Yes. I am a professional videographer and I have been slowly started building up my own light kit. I started with a few small and medium LED light panels. I quickly realized that I needed some lights with some punch and that could be shaped easily. I then purchased the Aputure 120d which I love. I then purchased the Boltzen to use primarily for fill/accent/hairlight. So far I am very happy with the light, it has more power than I anticipated and the light is nice and clean. The build quality is very impressive. As other's have mentioned, you can lock down the light in the yoke but if you had a modifier with any heft on the front, the light would likely rotated down in the yolk. Also it ships with a nice little case but it is not designed to hold the light with the yolk attached so you have to remove it every time you want to store it back in it's bag. I am grateful for the bag none-the-less. The transformer that came with my light said it was for the Bolzen 35 only. I reached out to Came-TV tech support to address the issue and they literally responded within minutes. Turns out it was simply an errantly placed label so all was good but I was really impressed by how responsive their support was. To me, that is worth a lot! I just ordered up my second Boltzen 55:)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Delivers as advertised. Good addition to kit So far been pleased with C temp and output. Many led fresnels are way off color scale. Yellow/Green scale seems right on. Amber/Blue is only slightly warm....easy to deal with. Have used as edge light & background light. Fan noise not an issue. If they made a more powerful model, I would probably add it to my kit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect light for video Compact, lightweight yet sturdy with sold feel. With ability to focus the beam and included barn doors this is great for hair light and other uses.
