Really Right Stuff BA7R2-L SET Overview

Dedicated to the Sony Alpha a7 II, a7R II, and a7S II, the BA7R2-L Set L-Plate from Really Right Stuff is an Arca-type compatible plate that facilitates easier, more stable switching between horizontal and vertical shooting orientations when working atop a tripod. The L-shape of the plate also benefits shooting in vertical orientation with panorama nodal slides, for maintaining a consistent nodal point, and shooting in horizontal orientation with side-mount gimbal heads. It's design also moves the battery door to the plate, ensuring easy access to the battery at all times. A gasket seals the battery compartment opening for protection.

This plate set features a modular two-piece design that includes both the dedicated base plate and an L-component, which combine to form a dedicated L-plate. This versatile configuration offers the same support as a one-piece L-plate, with the added ability to remove the L-component for a slimmer overall profile when needed. The custom-fit design also maintains full access to the battery door, and built-in tool storage makes it easy to remove or attach your plate when needed. Additionally, the CNC machined 6061-T6 aluminum construction is finished with a Type II black anodizing, a 1/4"-20 threaded mounting socket is featured on the base, and laser-engraved center marks are placed on both axes for easy alignment.

It's a work of art in itself, excellent function. You get what you pay for on this. It makes my previous base plate look like tin!

Phenomenal

I believe they've actually updated the product from the thumbnail one in this product description. The only difference being an updated "RRS" logo on the front, rather than the outdated and rather long, "Really Right Stuff" as seen in the picture. They also added an additional smaller hex key that is magnetized to the side as well. Everything you need is included, easy to install, fits perfectly, and has no slop. It really feels solid and feels just like its part of the camera body.

The RRS L bracket for A7ii set lives up to the hype, it’s a superbly engineered bracket. If you want the best you have to pay for it, but it’s literally worth every penny, I just wish RRS products were more a accesible the UK, but with BHP’s superb service it’s no great shakes to order online, I ordered on the Sunday, the package arrived on the Wednesday! Thanks again for your great customer service.

RRS great Quality

I bought the RRS angle bracket because the Sony A7Rii camera is very small and I have very large hands. I didn't like having 2 fingers hanging off the bottom of the camera. It gives me greater stability with heavier lenses, not to mention a very stable lock with a good tripod head.

Best bracket you can buy

Very well-built L bracket Will most likely last for years. One thing they don’t really mention is that most really right stuff has a QD attachment slot which is very handy for attaching and detaching your strap

A Very Important Add-On

Shooting on tripod with a Arca-Swiss compatible clamp head, changing a lot from horizontal to vertical shooting, doing lots of panorama shots, using focusing racks, enjoying macro photography... (and the list continues), then an L-plate is a must for you. This specific one from RRS is amazing as it holds your camera neatly etc., etc., etc. (just read the other reviews). I have recently bought this item and am very glad I did. Important note: this is a new version and it has a separate hole on the vertical side for QD (quick detach) attachment system. Also, on the front side only the initials are imprinted (RRS instead of the former Really Right Stuff). I love it and recommend it.

Love how smooth it fits against the body also to make a snugger fit with connection to strap screw.

question

I am seriously considering buying the Techart Pro Leica M Autofocus adapter. The adapter bottom can interfere with the adapter, but more importantly can block the Arca groove for the clamp on the ballhead. Is that the case here?
Asked by: Marc
Since I own a Sony A7Rii camera, a Techart Pro adaptor (which I use primarily with a Leica 35mm Summilux lens) and now have the Really Right Stuff (RRS) BA7R2-L Set Plate for Sony A7 II Series, and have successfully mounted all of them together, I can confirm that both the Techart Pro and the RRS L Plate Set can be attached to the camera at the same time. The L Plate does NOT interfere with the mounting or operation of the Techart Pro adaptor. However, the Techart Pro extends far enough down to block the Arca-compatible dovetail groove on the front side of the RRS bracket along the bottom of the camera. There is not enough clearance between the bracket and the adaptor to engage a ball head clamp. However, by fastening a short Arca-compatible base plate to the RRS bracket on the bottom side of the camera, you can use the Techart Pro with RRS L Plate set attached to the camera at the same time and still mount the camera on a tripod in either landscape or portrait orientation. This is a kludge, but it works. Of course if you only plan to shoot in portrait orientation, the added bracket isnt needed. And it can be removed/not put on at all when using the RRS L Plate kit with native Sony lenses (without the Techart Pro adaptor).

David B. is correct. You can find more info (maybe even diagrams or video) on RRS website. 1 minute operation at most.

question

Where is the 1/4 -20 threaded mounting socket located on the underside? Looking to use it with Black Rapid strap and wondered if it's central(for balance) or to one side.
Asked by: Keith W.
The 1/4 -20 threaded mounting socket is centrally mounted, just toward the rear from the camera's tripod socket, so the Black Rapid strap will be centrally mounted.

question

dose this plate work on the VG-C3EM battery Vertical Grip ?

I dont think it will work with the battery vertical grip. Access to the panels on the left would be impeded.
