The unit ships with a 3/8" adapter and acorn nut installed on the top section. How do you remove the 3/8" threaded adapter on the top section to expose the 1/4"x20 threaded post?
The top thread for me was spring loaded, so if you push it down the outside thread, the 1/4inch thread will be revealed.

Does this come with a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter for the bottom thread?
Yes. The bottom is 3/8's with an adapter to make it 1/4. The top is 1/4 and it comes with an adapter to make it 3/8. I use the 1/4 adapter in the bottom and use the 1/4 thread in the top as it comes. I don't think I will need the 3/8 adapter for the top, but having them makes the product very versatile. The picture shows both adapters but you can't tell what they are.
