Hasselblad 200c MS Digital Back
Key Features
  • 50MP 43.8 x 32.9mm CMOS Sensor
  • Multi-Shot Capture Mode; Up to 6 Shots
  • ISO 100-6400, 14-Stop Dynamic Range
  • 16-Bit Color Depth, 3FR Raw File Format
A specialized digital back designed for high-resolution shooting, the Hasselblad 200c MS is distinguished from other backs with its unique multi-shot capabilities. Versus traditional single-shot images, this multi-shot capture records six sequential images and automatically composites them into a single frame with noticeably greater color detail and a near complete lack of moiré and aliasing. Multi-shot shooting is possible when shooting tethered via Phocus, however, the back can also be used in traditional single-shot mode and an optional Battery Adapter can be used for portable, untethered shooting.

Hasselblad 200CMS Overview

A specialized digital back designed for high-resolution shooting, the Hasselblad 200c MS is distinguished from other backs with its unique multi-shot capabilities. Versus traditional single-shot images, this multi-shot capture records six sequential images and automatically composites them into a single frame with noticeably greater color detail and a near complete lack of moiré and aliasing. Multi-shot shooting is possible when shooting tethered via Phocus, however, the back can also be used in traditional single-shot mode and an optional Battery Adapter can be used for portable, untethered shooting.

The multi-shot capabilities make use of the 50MP 43.8 x 32.9mm CMOS sensor, which itself offers vivid 16-bit color depth, a sensitivity range from ISO 100-6400, and a 14-stop dynamic range to suit working in a variety of lighting conditions. This sensor also benefits from Hasselblad Natural Color Solution to produce an accurate and realistic color palette and files are natively saved in the flexible 3FR raw file format.

Multi-Shot Capture
Differing from standard single-shot capture, this multi-shot digital back allows you to record either four or six sequential exposures, which are automatically blended into a single frame, in order to achieve greater color definition that is void of unwanted moiré and aliasing. During each multi-shot capture, the sensor physically moves, using piezo motors, in small increments between exposures in order to gain full RGB data for each pixel to afford heightened color resolution, sharpness, and clarity. This 200c version adds two additional exposures during the multi-shot capture in order to further refine the process and gather more color information than the standard 4-shot image.

In order to record a multi-shot capture, you must shoot tethered to a computer and have Hasselblad Phocus software running. Additionally, either an H4X, H5X, or similar body, or a view/technical camera with lens mounted in an electronic shutter must be used to make use of the multi-shot capabilities. It is highly recommended to work from a tripod or camera stand under consistent lighting, and multi-shot captures are best-suited for stationary subjects. The back can also function as a standard 1-shot capture digital back, and can be used untethered in single shot mode for portable use when paired with an optional Battery Adapter.
50MP CMOS Sensor
Utilizing a large 50MP CMOS sensor, measuring 43.8 x 32.9mm, the 200c MS is capable of capturing an extremely wide dynamic range of up to 14 stops along with vivid 16-bit color depth. When combined with the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution, tonal transitions and skin tones show immense depth, detail, and clarity for lifelike image quality, even in dark shadow and bright highlight regions. To suit working in a variety of lighting conditions, a sensitivity range of ISO 100-6400 is available, and still files are saved in the Hasselblad 3FR raw file format or as 8-bit TIFFs.
System Integration and Other Features
  • Hasselblad H interface allows this back to be paired with H-series camera bodies as well as view and technical cameras to make use of camera movements and the larger image circles of large format and technical lenses.
  • When paired with view/technical cameras, this back can be triggered with mechanical shutters via flash sync. If using a lens mounted in an electronic shutter, the back is triggered via Phocus software.
  • FireWire 800 port for tethered shooting.
  • Rear 3.0" 460,320-dot LCD monitor is available for live view composition as well as menu navigation and image review.
  • Capture rate of 1.5 fps when working in single-shot mode.
  • CompactFlash memory card slot for on-board storage alternative to tethered shooting.
  • Back can be powered via FireWire connection when shooting tethered or via an external 12-24 VDC power source. Additionally, an optional Battery Adapter is available for standalone, untethered shooting.
