ZEISS 10x42 Terra ED Binoculars (Gray)
Key Features
  • SCHOTT Extra-Low Dispersion Glass
  • Schmidt-Pechan Roof Prism Design
  • ZEISS Hydrophobic Multicoated Optics
  • Wide 60° Viewing Angle
The gray ZEISS Optics 10x42 Terra ED Binoculars feature a redesigned ergonomic chassis that makes holding them more comfortable, especially during long glassing sessions. Optically, they retain the exceptional elements that are the hallmarks of the Terra ED, including compact Schmidt-Pechan roof prisms, SCHOTT extra-low dispersion (ED) glass, and proprietary multicoatings. These complementary technologies and elements work together to produce an immersive observational experience that presents clear and bright views, with accurate color representation and virtually zero distortion across the entire wide field of view. The 60° apparent angle of view also helps to minimize the visible hand shake common in higher-power binoculars.

ZEISS Terra ED 10x42 Overview

The comfortable ergonomic chassis is made of a fiberglass-reinforced polycarbonate to help reduce weight without sacrificing strength. It also adds impact and temperature resistance. Being resistant to temperature changes ensures the housing remains a constant temperature, even in cold and wet conditions. It will not experience the expansion and contraction common in metal chassis that can cause the optical elements to move out of alignment over time and hinder the binoculars' ability to achieve sharp focus. The chassis is covered in a gray rubber armoring that helps to protect them from drops and impacts and provides a slip-resistant grip.

Optical Performance
  • 10x magnification
  • 42mm objective lenses
  • Roof prism optical path
  • Compact Schmidt-Pechan prism design for correcting view and thinner optical tubes versus the more common Abbe-Koenig design
  • SCHOTT ED glass elements reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations to produce views with true color rendition without halos, diffraction, or distortion across the entire field of view
  • ZEISS proprietary hydrophobic multicoated optics for dust, dirt, and oil resistance plus improved light transmission, color rendition, sharpness, and contrast
  • Short 5.25' close-focus distance
  • Wide 60° apparent angle of view
  • 330' field of view at 1000 yards

Super Value

I have both the Zeiss Terra 8 as well as the 10 power x42 binoculars. I own other binoculars from Swarovski and what impresses me the most is that these binoculars cost nearly 5x less but are exceptionally bright and crisp and you’d be hard pressed to point out the difference between the the much more expensive Swarovskis and the Zeiss Terra EDs. They are also much lighter than the Swarovski ELs. At this price point you can outfit everyone in the family!

My wife has always been interested in bird watching. She has a couple of pairs of old binoculars, she never liked. A friend of mine recommended the ZEISS 10x42 ED binoculars which both he & his mothers both use and how great they were. After trying theirs, I ordered a pair for my wife for her 80th birthday and she absolutely swears by them

Do these have a threaded hole to attach a tripod adapter?

No, they do not. Tripod mountable binoculars are usually much larger, there might be one this size but I do not know of one.

question

Are these made in China?
Asked by: Robert L.
Yes its made in China. Overall I am very happy with the binoculars. Brought it on African safari last month and really enjoyed using it to observe big 5 from dawn to night. I also bought a Vankey cellphone adapter mount for iPhone and used it to take mostly videos at the Cape of Good Hope and safaris. The image quality for videos is not professional quality but acceptable even on the big screen. The color saturation and clarity are not as good as the camcorder. Very slight chromatic aberration may be seen at the edges but not serious. Not sure if the German glass has same issue. I am not happy that the binoculars does not have a 1/4 inch adapter for camera tripod. Zeiss sells their version of adapter for over $200 which is ridiculously expensive. Why cant they tap a hole and put a rubber cap during manufacturing? I fabricated my own adapter using recycled wood and some Velcro for under $2 and it worked perfectly throughout the whole trip. Our safari guide even commented that it was the first he had seen the binoculars setup and was really impressed
