Elvid OV-100 overview

  • 1Description

The OptiView 100 3.2" LCD Viewfinder Loupe from Elvid is a 1:1 magnifying loupe, which attaches to the back of a camera, over an LCD screen up to 3.2" in size. Because it features multi-coated optical glass, the viewfinder enables you to see your images or videos with better sharpness and contrast. In addition, the rubber eyecup blocks stray or extraneous light, and the viewfinder's built-in diopter can be adjusted +/-3, which allows you to view without glasses.

The metal mounting frame's adhesive sticks directly around the LCD screen and enables the base to magnetically attach to the metal frame for hands-free use. Otherwise, the removable rubber bumper on the bottom of the base protects the LCD screen if the metal mounting frame is not attached to the camera. In addition, when the LCD viewfinder is attached the top half can be removed, leaving the bottom half to act as a shade, without magnification, to the LCD screen. The included lanyard is used to carry the viewfinder only, and not the camera.

    Elvid OV-100 reviews

OptiView 100 3.2" LCD Viewfinder Loupe is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Works, but not as well and you'd hope. Not worth the price. It works, but definitely not very well. The materials feel pretty cheap for how much it costs and the viewfinder is blurry on the edges. When you adjust the diopter, it will adjust to the center of the LCD screen but the entire screen wont go into focus very well. There is also too much light that bleeds into the eyecup so I can see glares off my eyes in the loupe lens, which distracts me from seeing what's on the LCD screen. I guess it is what it is though. I think I would pay $15 or $20 for something like this.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Could have been a great design except... I found out why others have complained that the magnets do not hold the hood onto the metal frame very well. They DO if you seat the hood all of the way into the metal frame, the problem is that the tolerance / clearance is WAY too tight. It's possible to press the hood all of the way into the metal frame when holding both and looking at them from the side, however mounting the frame onto a camera as intended would make that action very difficult. I've decided to return this item rather than face years of fighting that design flaw. Otherwise it sure seemed like a quality item, the optics are coated, very nice! And I was really looking forward to using the half-hood feature, oh well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good solution, good price, high value IMHO This viewfinder is exactly what i was looking for as an addition to my Panasonic GX8. I needed something to use on the touchscreen when it was opened and viewed from above. My hotshoe is used for an Nissan Air 1 Commander and it obstructs the GX8s wonderful flip up viewfinder. Great value, can be used in a variety of ways. However, and this probably doesn't effect many people when the touchscreen is opened and either horizontal or flipped forward for selfies, Panasonic inverts the images so that it is right reading. When this viewfinder is installed the magnets activate that flip mode and the touchscreen image is therefore reversed. I considered removing the magnets, but so far its not a deal breaker, Im dyslexic anyway and didn't notice it until someone else noticed it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good for the price I only paid $40 for mine, where the Hoodman is $90. I figured I was getting what I pay for. I was wrong. It's a solid polymer where the Hoodman is a soft rubber polymer. The Hoodman lens are very clear and bright where the OptiView has some slight distortion around the edges, nothing I can't live with, also when I hold up the Loupe and look through it appears that the inside lens was not cleaned very well at assembly. I don't notice it when I am looking at my camera's LCD. The OptiView has a metal plate with peal and stick tape that adheres to your camera or LCD cover and the Loupe has three magnets where it will stick to the plate. The Metal plate fits into a recess on the bottom of the loupe. Mine fits very tight and I'm afraid that the metal plat will peel off when removing the loupe.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's too heavy to hold on to the camera. It's too heavy to hold on to the camera. I only use it without the loupe. Just the shade area. The part attached to the camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Viewfinder Received ahead of schedule, always prompt service. Just attached it to my Nikon D750. Was reluctant to attach the magnetic ring to viewfinder screen, but after doing so it is easier to align the viewfinder as it attaches perfectly in view everytime. Optic quality for viewing is acceptable. I would recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from See your LCD screen in sunlight The loupe is useful for reviewing shots on the LDC screen in bright sunlight. Turning the lens increases the size of the image, but the magnification function is more useful. The metal frame to put around the screen to mount this blocked the screen on both my 7DmkII and my 5DmkIV, and was useless.
