not smooth zoom to focus

not smooth zoom to focus when birding. turning the zoom ring is sturdy. like to put some oil over it. Not possible of course. at my age (80) handling the lens 370 grams is bit heavy. Power OIS is fine. At 200 mm pics are not sharp. At 45 I used it for macro with sharp results. But that's not why you buy this tele lens for. All in all it is o.k. but not really to my satisfaction. my 45-150 is smooth and gives best results. shipping with DHL is perfect. Can pay tax & duties on line with DHL facilities. Greetings from the Philippines.

Average Lens

This lens is average at the longer focal lengths. It's quick to focus but shows signs of corner softness from 150 mm to 200 mm. The center is very sharp at 45 to 150.

No weakness

This lens has nothing extraordinary, but is very good for everything: image quality, handling, weight. I like a lot the focal range. On the net, this lens is often 'trashed', and I was reluctant to buy it. Careful testing, even at 200/5.6, shows that image quality is very good.

This is a useful and fun lens and I am sure glad I have it.

I would not have purchased this lens but it came bundled with my G85 camera and I am so glad it did. It stays on my camera all the time. Because of medical reasons, I can not bend at the waist, but I enjoy photographing flora and fauna. With this lens, I have been able to take hundreds of pictures that I would not have normally been able to. Also adding to the 200mm length usage is the IS. Without it, I would be tied to a tripod. I take most of my pictures handheld and without dual IS none of them would be worthwhile. I know at 200mm it is not sharp out to the edge, but the center appears sharp. It may be a little soft in the center but I can't see it. If I based it on the lens reviewers, I would not have purchased but I am sure glad I have it.

Good image quality.

The photos this lens provides are good enough for most of my needs, and the 90-400 range is very good to have in a small, light package. and the best part, it was free as part of the G85, 12-60 combo. And having the 24-400 range covered in two small, light lenses is very good.

Fast To Focus. Ok Sharpness at the long end.

A good solid lens for the money. A quick focusing lens that is very sharp below 100mm and very usable all the way up the 200mm.

This is the perfect addition to our camera set ups. We use 4 Panasonic GH5 camera for shoots. We needed one of the cameras to get closer to the subject. This works out great and it was in our budget. Great for nature photography too.

question

Does it zoom in/out smoothly with no catches during video?
Asked by: Kevin L.
Although I really like this lens for stills I can not recommend it for video if you are going to zoom while videoing. For stills, it is not a problem but I notice the focus jumping when I zoom.
