MSI Z270 overview

  • 1Description

The MSI Z270 SLI Plus LGA1151 ATX Motherboard is designed for gaming builds by featuring three PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, and two of these slots feature reinforced steel plating. The Z270 SLI Plus comes with an Intel Z270 chipset and LGA1151 socket to support Intel's 6th- and 7th-generation processors. It can accommodate up to 64GB of DDR4 memory modules as well as six SATA-based storage drives. For quick access to your data, two M.2 slots are on board, letting you install two PCIe-based SSDs and enhance them with RAID capabilities. When compared to the Z270 SLI version, this Z270 SLI Plus model covers more internal components with a Steel Armor design, such as the M.2 and RAM slots as well as heatsinks.

For gaming builds, you can install up to three graphics cards and link them utilizing AMD Crossfire or NVIDIA SLI technologies. Having the graphics cards linked allows the system to deliver a stutter-free gaming experience with ultra details enabled. There are also three PCIe 3.0 x1 slots for installing Wi-Fi, USB expansion, and other types of PCI cards.

On the rear panel, the motherboard is outfitted with Gigabit Ethernet, PS/2, HDMI, and DVI-D connections. For connecting USB devices, it comes equipped with two USB 2.0, four USB 3.0, and two USB 3.1 ports. In addition, each of the USB 3.1 ports transmits data at up to 10 Gb/s speeds, and one of them feature a USB Type-C interface so you can connect a USB-C cable on the first try. Other notable connections include six audio jacks that output 7.1-channel sounds via a Realtek ALC1220 processor.

    MSI Z270 reviews

Z270 SLI Plus LGA1151 ATX Motherboard is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Full-featured, top notch board This is a great mobo. It has all the latest features, as of January 2017. I use it with an Intel Core i7 7700K; works great. I am running Win7 Pro right now. So far, it works fine. From what I can tell, the Kaby Lake CPU doesn't allow multi-display setups on Win7, if using the integrated graphics. However, there is a setting in the BIOS pertaining to multiple displays that might solve that problem. I haven't messed with it since I have a dedicated graphics card, which also solves the issue. Also, be careful which drivers you install. Everything was working great before I downloaded a bunch of the latest drivers from MSi. After I installed those downloaded drivers (especially the ones for USB 3), my mouse was all wonky. Bizarrely, the version numbers on the downloaded drivers were the same as those on the installation disk that came with the board. Anyway I had to reinstall the OS to fix it. Then I just stuck with what came on the install disk and everything is great again.
