Yongnuo YN608 Daylight Reviews

Very bright. Cheap plastic.

For the price, its what Id expect build wise. The 1/4-20 mount looks like the weak link. I like that the remote can be powered from the NP-F light batteries, when it is placed in the light. The bag actually has a little padding. This is one of the larger ring lights, 21 vs 19 . At 100% it is really too bright to look directly into from less than 5-6 feet. Been looking for a battery LED ring light for a few months. My biggest issue was never knowing for sure how bright they would be. I opted for the daylight only version because the variable ones only reach the rated brightness at some odd Kelven temp the doesnt match anything. The 4000lumen rating on this seems pretty accurate. It registered 4000lux at 1 to 2 feet on my Sekonic. I also did a quick comparison to a SB-600, straight on, in a dark room: ISO 400, 1/60, 5 away Ringlight at 100% - f/4.0 SB-600 with built-in diffuser down, 1/16 power - f/4.0 SB-600 at 24mm, 1/16 power - f/6.3 So, pretty bright. The brightness control isnt very linear, but does it really matter? If it lasts, Ill be happy.

The Light itself is impressive, but they drop the ball...

The light (the very large circle with diffused LEDS) I love. What I don't love is that almost no other thought went into what started out as a great product. FIRST example... It chews through my batteries, so naturally I would like to plug it in. BUT it doesn't come with a power adapter. So of course the next step is to buy one. BUT I had to contact customer service to find the specific power source and it was at another company listed in a way that I wouldn't have found it without the direct link they provided. SECOND... notice the handle that it comes with in the image. At first glance it looks nice, but unlike most other ring lights the mounting device doesn't bend or tilt. So they are limiting its uses to being completely vertical. Yes it is a nice ring light, but they limit it from being a good key or fill light. So... why didn't I return it??? Because it is a great light. I went searching for the right power adapter and had to use my own tripod head that I attached to a light stand in order to get it to work as a key light... and it looks great. I don't know how long the thread at the bottom will hold up from the weight of it being tilted like a standard key light, because aside from the metal thread the base is essentially cheap plastic, but so far I love it. I had to a star because of the two major mistakes they made. Mistakes that made me think they didn't have anybody test this product for real world usage. I would deduct more, but I don't want to ruin their sales of a good light. I use this to light myself talking in front of a green screen. The color in my uses is good and it produces a soft even light. I use it slightly to the side and slightly higher tilted down and it works perfectly. I love it for my uses. Hopefully they will update this product.

question

Can it operates with one battery or needs two?
Asked by: Jon C.
The instructions included with the Yongnuo YN608W LED Video Ring Light (5500K) state that if you put one battery into the battery slot, only 304 LEDs will light up, but the relevant functions will work normally. If you use both batteries in both battery slots, then all 608 LEDs will light up. As such, you would only have half of the available light output if you choose to use one battery with the light fixture.
