Lenovo 40AA0045US overview

  • 1Description

The Lenovo ThinkPad USB 3.0 Basic Dock provides four USB ports as well as one DVI and Gigabit Ethernet port for quickly attaching peripherals to your notebook. The dock connects to your notebook using a single USB 3.0 cable to offer a quick option for attaching all your external gear. The two USB 2.0 ports are suitable for accessing printers and mice, while two USB 3.0 ports transmit data at speeds of up to 5 Gb/s, making them optimal for thumb drives and external storage drives. Additionally, one of the two USB 3.0 ports features always-on mobile device charging, so you can recharge a battery-powered device without the notebook attached.

To expand your notebook's onscreen workspace, the dock can connect to an external monitor that sports a DVI connection. For VGA-outfitted displays, a DVI to VGA adapter is included. Aside from visuals, the dock has an audio combo port for your headset, microphone, headphone, or pair of speakers. Moreover, the notebook can reliably and quickly access the Internet with the available Gigabit Ethernet port located on the rear panel of the dock.

    Lenovo 40AA0045US reviews

ThinkPad USB 3.0 Basic Dock is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good dock, but does NOT include charging I actually have the Lenovo USB 3.0 Pro Dock, which is the next step up from the Basic dock. It works well, but has some limitations. First, it does NOT include a recharging option for your computer . . . you still need to plug in a separate power cord to charge. But it's still a nifty little unit -- fairly compact and plenty of ports. You also need to download a driver, pretty easy. I had one glitch where I couldn't receive internet through the dock, but could receive it directly in to my laptop. Just reloaded the driver, unplugged power, then good. The Pro dock lays flat, which is unobtrusive, and the Basic dock stands up. Just be aware. Overall good unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great with Lenovo or any USB 3.0 laptop I bought this over a year ago and have been happily using it to run 2 external display for this whole time until I recently switched to a desktop machine. Once the drivers were installed everything worked smoothly and it was nice to connect all my USB devices, ethernet, display and audio with one cable. It's disappointing that the reviews all focus on a feature that it doesn't have and never claimed to. No, it doesn't charge your laptop, but no where in the listing does it mention that it does. A failure to read carefully isn't a problem with the dock, it does everything it is supposed to do perfectly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, But not as good as it could be This docking station was everything that I was looking for, but with one BIG exception. It will not charge my laptop! Why make a docking station that doesn't do one of the most important details that most people want in a docking station? Because I knew in advance that it would not charge my laptop, I'm happy with the purchase, but I still wish that the charging solution was available. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not charge laptop Bought this dock for use with my X1 Yoga (2nd gen). The dock doesn't charge the laptop! Lenovo needs to be MUCH more forthcoming about that little detail. I read through the description before purchasing, but I guess I missed that point. It didn't even occur to me that someone would make a dock that doesn't charge the laptop. (That's the #1 feature I'd expect from a dock.) Other than that, the dock seems to work fine. But I wouldn't really recommend it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not specified docking station does not charge New thinkpads are charged through a port that is at least physically the same as an USB C. I was unpleasantly surprised the thinkpad is connected through a USB B. Also, in general one expects that a docking station also charges the notebook. If at least it was clearly stated the docking station does not charge, it would have been better. Indeed the docking station does what it is supposed to do, which is very little.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It helps, but could be better. I didn't read the discription clearly or I would have realized that it does NOT have an HDMI port. Very suprising. There is only a single DVI out. If you are used to running multiple displays you will sitll need to run a separate cable to your labtop, and you will need a $6 DVI to HDMI cord. Otherwise it works as you would expect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from USB 3.0 Dock was everything I expected! I bought the ThinkPad Basic USB 3.0 Dock so that I could connect my ancillary devices to my ThinkPad X1 Tablet when working in my home office. The instructions and device itself were clear and intuitive. All my ancillary devices are connected and my productivity is back on par!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works fine, but lacking The dock works as advertised is lacking a key feature! It should be able to pass power to the laptop so I don't need to also get my AC adapter for every time I set up.
