Garmin 010-01688-00 overview

  • 1Description

Up your game with the Garmin fenix 5 in Slate Gray with a black band. This fitness watch was designed with multi-sport athletes in mind and records data useful to runners, cyclists, swimmers, climbers, hikers, skiers, paddlers, and more. It also features Elevate wrist heart rate monitoring, which enables you to track your heart rate data without having to wear a chest strap as well as more accurately calculate your calories burned and monitor fitness intensity. For enhanced location and distance accuracy, the fenix 5 is equipped with an EXO antenna with GPS and GLONASS reception.

The fenix 5 connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth LE, allowing it to transfer its stored data to the phone and to receive notifications, text messages, and emails while on the go. It also functions as an activity tracker, silently logging your steps and encouraging you to get moving after an extended period of inactivity. When it's time to rest after a long day of exercise, your fenix 5 will monitor your sleep and record periods of restful sleep or movement.

Your fenix 5 uses an EXO antenna, unobtrusively integrated into the bezel, to receive signals from GPS and GLONASS satellites. It uses this data to create a track log, using a "breadcrumb trail" system of track points and user-entered locations and checkpoints, so you can always find your way.
Altimeter, Barometer, and Compass
The fenix 5 has built-in altimeter, barometer, and compass (ABC) sensors to provide real-time information while out and about. The altimeter provides elevation data to accurately monitor ascent and descent, while the barometer can be used to predict weather changes by showing short-term trends in air pressure. The 3-axis electronic compass keeps your bearing whether or not you're in motion. An internal gyroscope enhances location accuracy and saves battery power while in UltraTrac mode.

Running and Cycling

Cycling Features
When used with the optional Vector cycle power meter, the fenix 5 records your speed and cadence. It also stores multiple bicycle profiles.
Advanced Running Dynamics and Physiological Metrics
The fenix 5 shows advanced metrics to help you improve your performance. Performance condition lets you compare your real-time condition to your average levels, and lactate threshold estimates the point where rapid muscle fatigue begins. Cadence and stride length help you keep on top of your form.
HRM-Run Compatibility
When used with an optional Garmin HRM-Run monitor, the fenix 5 can record your vertical oscillation and ratio as well as ground contact time and balance so you can safely increase your running economy. The Stress Score measures heart rate variability while standing still and displays an estimated stress level.

    Garmin 010-01688-00 reviews

fenix 5 Multi-Sport Training GPS Watch (Slate Gray, Black Band) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pricey - but truly fantastic. I was replacing a Fitbit Surge with this purchase - the Fitbit's durability, battery life, and overall functionality wasn't quite up to the Garmin level. When the Fenix 5 came out, I balked initially at the price, but a few weeks in, I could not be happier. Its style / look is universally appealing to me. The watch looks sleek and unobtrusive (slate gray, black band) whether in the outdoors, in formal attire, in a professional or casual setting. Functionality has been really impressive. Menus are very intuitive. Watch face and activities and buttons infinitely customizable. It just works and it works well for the things I love to do - constant running, mountain biking, weight lifting, you name it. I get a lot of value and motivation out of the activity and sleep tracking. It doesn't buzz me with every text message (good for work productivity) but it does remind me to get up and move every once in a while. I like that. I was worried about not having wifi and the suggested durability of the sapphire version, but honestly my mind is at ease. Glad I saved some $. Bluetooth has been perfect and I cannot see myself scratching or damaging this thing anytime soon - despite putting it through harsh conditions on a regular basis. The strap and hardware all feels somehow light weight but also really *substantial* compared to the Fitbit - the buckles and strap and other hardware are all built to last. Garmin's Connect software makes activity tracking, PR tracking, and integration with services like Strava really painless. The fact that I can wear it all week in the office, run or bike with the GPS every day, and still come back the next weekend with most of the battery remaining is simply fantastic. I always had battery anxiety with my Fitbit and now I just have to remember to throw it on the charger once every couple weeks. I feel like I am wearing the greatest watch in existence for my needs. A luxury, but one that has brought me a lot of satisfaction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Great battery life, highly customizable. tested optical heart rate sensor to chest strap, results better then I hoped for. Not perfect for high intensity but worked well regardless. So far no freezes, no malfunctions, just awesomeness.
