  • 1Description

Record MP3s to cassette tape—and vice versa—with Tascam’s CD-A580, a multi-purpose recording/playback device which handles cassette tapes, CD files of multiple types, and USB flash media. Taking up 3 RU of rack space, the device is suitable for use in installation and professional scenarios, sports RCA line inputs and outputs, a 1/4" headphone jack with its own volume knob, and an LCD display, giving you readouts on levels.

The cassette deck is capable of both playback and recording, capturing files from CDs and the USB flash drive. On the cassette side, you can control the pitch of playback within a window of ±10%. As for the CD player, audio CDs, CD-RWs, and data CDs containing MP3 files are all supported, with a variety of playback modes provided, including Program, Single, and All. The USB flash-drive recorder can capture MP3 files from the CD player, the cassette deck, and line-input sources. Furthermore, you can play MP3 files with this device, playing back in Shuffle and Program modes. A remote control is included, so you may operate the CD-A580 at a distance. Tascam CD-A580 reviews

    CD-A580 Cassette, USB & CD Player/Recorder is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from An all in one solution for legacy audio media. You can use the CD-A580 to play or convert music from cassettes, CDs, and LPs (from the aux in) to mp3. The bit-rate is only 128, that's the reason why I only rate this product as 4 stars instead of 5. The cassette deck has electronic buttons vs mechanical buttons, and it automatically stopped when you reach the end of the tape when rewinding/forwarding, playing. It can record normal and CrO2 tapes, but not metal tape (It can play Metal tape). The deck does not offer any noise reduction (or Dolby B/C); but the playback quality is superb.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Working very well! Took the plunge and purchased this Tascam CD-A580 to make quality digital recordings of some old cassette tapes of a family member who was a speaker during the 1970's through early 1990's. Everything seems to be working very well so far and I'm pleased with the audio quality even though there is that tape hiss from the cassettes. I'm recording onto a USB drive, then going to my computer to piece the files together (front/back sides of the tape) using Audacity. No issues so far!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality product that does the job The Tascam CD-A580 is pretty similar to the TEAC AD-800 which is no longer available (the TEAC AD-800 has auto-reverse for cassette). Built quality is solid, the cassette deck is fully automatic with electronic buttons vs mechanical buttons). I would rate this 5 stars if I can change the bit-rate to 256 or higher, but it does the job of converting my cassette collection to mp3).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from REVIEW OF TASCAM CD-A580 It does everything is says it will do. Only disappointing thing is there is no noise reduction for playing tapes that have Dolby B, C, etc. Even a DNR (Dynamic Noise Reduction) would have been good. For that reason alone, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. WMN

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than expected I bought the A580 to fill a void when an old cassette deck broke. Tascam has a long history and a good reputation, but I didn't expect anything special. My initial impression of the sound quality is that both the CD player and cassette player are excellent. The cassette sound is more dynamic than with previous tape machines. It may be due to the lack of Dolby noise-reduction, but I don't detect any response anomalies, so I'm pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works beautifully well constructed; easy to read buttons and dials and screen; intuitive to operate; very clear instruction manual; i have only used it to transfer my casette tapes to MP3 and it is a dream to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded My Expectations My component cassette and CD players, after a long and useful life, recently died. I needed replacements when discovering this TASCAN unit. Perfect. Connected it to my vintage Marantz tuner/amp (which is also connected to turntable and reel-to-reel). That meant I could dub old cassette tapes, reel-to-reel tape recordings, and vinyl onto a USB, plug the USB into my MacBook Pro and insert the tunes into my music library. From there, burn CDs or dub onto SD cards or simply enable Airplay to send a playlist downstairs through Apple TV to the amp and speakers there. Read the instructions for operation on the Tascam unit; they're simple. You will be astonished with the frequency response and low noise/harmonic distortion of this product. Well worth the price, too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from High quality consumer level deck This deck is high quality for consumer level use. It does not replace the MKIV model that is no longer available. Speed had to be calibrated. Tape to MP3 would be much better if the bitstream were adjustable to 256mbps. 128mbps was an odd choice and limits its use to consumer level applications, not professional. Overall an excellent quality deck.
