SAFETY FIRST: Observing the Sun without the proper protection may result in serious personal injury, including permanent eye damage and blindness, and/or damage to equipment. Never point an optic at the sun without an approved solar filter on the front of the optic. For direct solar viewing, viewing the sun through an optic, or when using cameras with an optical viewfinder, ensure your filter is ISO 12312-2 (also written as ISO 12312-2:2015) certified. Never use photographic neutral density filters for direct solar viewing, viewing the sun through an optic, or when using cameras with an optical viewfinder.

Designed and engineered for versatility, the Meade Instruments EclipseView 60mm f/13 AZ Achro Refractor Telescope can be used for conventional nighttime viewing or, with the simple installation of the included filter, solar observation. The full-spectrum white light filter fits on the front of the optical tube (OTA) and allows for safe viewing of sunspots, granulations, planetary transits, and all phases of solar eclipses. With the filter removed, the EclipseView can be used to view celestial subjects such as the Moon and planets.

To find subjects fast, and to make star-hopping navigation faster, Meade includes a wide-field red-dot finder; and for safe centering of the Sun in the field of view, they also provide a Sun-Finder finderscope. The OTA is attached to a manual alt-azimuth mount equipped with a slow-motion rod to increase tracking precision and reduce vibrations. Supporting the mount and OTA is an adjustable height tripod with an accessory try to hold the two included eyepieces, plus optional gear like Barlows and filters.

EclipseView 60mm f/13 AZ Achro Refractor Telescope with Solar Filter is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Starter Telescope I bought this specifically for viewing the total solar eclipse and it performed well. Easy to set up and use. The only thing that baffled me was how flimsy the solar filter was. It fastened into place with just one screw and wasn't exactly snug on the front of the telescope. It did block out the sun's harmful rays and allowed me to view it with no problems. Good thing it was removable, otherwise I would've sent it back. What I did like about the telescope is that it provides a red dot finder for regular night viewing, as well as a choice of two eyepieces and a 2x barlow. That flexibility makes this a good deal for a beginner hobby astronomer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from For the price I guess it's not fair to harshly judge this... For the price I guess it's not fair to harshly judge this little scope. The optics are very good. The stability of the scope on the stand looking at a far away object not so much. I find it extremely difficult to stay focused on a sky object. Day time use for things that are closer than sky objects is pretty good and as I said the optics are very good for this price point. Lastly, I'll say that considering what is offered in this kit I would have been happy to pay some more to get a more stable mounting system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Telescope For The Price I bought this telescope primarily for the Great American Eclipse and it worked spectacularly. The Sun almost fills the field of view with the 26mm lens. The included sun spotter sight worked well and only required minimal finding after sighting the sun. I have also used the telescope at night and have been easily able to view Saturn and it's rings with the 9 mm lens with and without the Barlow tube. I just purchased the Meade 60/70 mm telescope bag and all the parts and pieces fit in it for easier travel compared to carrying the box the telescope came in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality for a beginner scope-exceeded expectations Received the telescope promptly as promised, with excellent packing. Was really impressed with all of the features and accessories included. For a beginner scope, it is very well made - coated glass optics stood out. The overall mount is a little flimsy - might be difficult to hang an SLR on a T adaptor without some additional support needed. Took it out the day before the eclipse to test out some sun viewing was impressed with how good the image was. Easily made out sunspots; I was so surprised I had to check a near realtime website to confirm those really were sunspots. Eclipse viewing was excellent - only downside was cloud cover (can't blame scope for that). Sunspotter guide could use crosshairs - minor nit. Will be purchasing T-mount, and I suspect this is just the beginning of more expense scope purchases... And so it begins...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great optics at a great price, good telescope for beginners This telescope did everything it was supposed to do, my children and I were able to view the solar eclipse as it progressed. It is good optics for the price range and while perhaps I'd like a sturdier tripod, I'm glad I purchased this telescope. Looking forward to using it to look at the night skies.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great eclipse-viewing telescope I bought this with the primary purpose to view the eclipse. For that, it did an excellent job! The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is that it's hard to focus on other celestial objects. Additionally, the eye-piece appeared to have stuff crawling on it. It does not appear to be the atmospheric effect.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dont waste your money Now I know why this company stopped selling this, the solar filter doesnt work, I can't find any help anywhere to find out why the solar filter doesn't work, also the parts that B&H sold me to connect my camera to the eclipse view don't work. First time I have ever been very very disappoined in B&H
