Capture photos and movies of wildlife in the field and view or download them remotely via Bluetooth connectivity with the Browning Defender 850 Trail Camera. The camera features a passive infrared (PIR) motion sensor with an 80' detection range and a fast 0.4-second trigger speed for capturing 20MP stills and HD 1920x1080p video (with sound) in response to subject movement.

Install the Browning Trail Cameras mobile app on your smartphone or tablet to take advantage of the Defender 850's Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities. You can view and download photos and images, change camera settings, and preview its field of view from 60 yards away, without having to physically touch the camera. You can also use SDXC memory cards up to 128GB as the medium for the camera's images and video. A 16GB SDXC card is included with the camera.

The camera's infrared LED flash offers Power Save, Long Range, and Fast Motion settings with a maximum range of 120'. Time-Lapse Plus shooting mode captures images at pre-set intervals over a designated period while still taking PIR-triggered shots, and Browning's BuckWatch Time-Lapse Viewer Software enables you to see patterns and change over that period. The camera is also capable of capturing up to eight images in Multi-Shot or Rapid Fire modes, ensuring that you don't miss the action. Photos and videos are recorded to optional SDXC memory cards up to 128GB. The Defender 850 runs on four included CR123A batteries.

Defender 850 Trail Camera is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bluetooth/WiFi very limited on Defender 850 My tests conclusions on the Defender 850 Bluetooth/WiFi range is that it is very limited. The problem is the Defender App starts you in Bluetooth mode before you can get in to WiFi, you can not go directly into WiFi mode. The problem - Bluetooth only has a range of 30'. Another issue is that you can not just stay in WiFi mode while viewing because the photo taking functions are turned off when in WiFi mode. Example : Let's say you place the camera on a tree in your back yard, and then you go to your house or back porch 100' away. My tests show that you will not be able to connect into the camera at this distance. You will first need to go back and stand within in 30' of the camera and connect into its Bluetooth mode first then with the Bluetooth mode you can then turn on the WiFi mode in the camera. Now you can go over to your porch 100' away, and tinker with the Defender App on your smart phone. But, while in WiFi mode the picture taking capacities are turned off in the camera. When you are ready to continue taking photos you can move from WiFi to Bluetooth from your porch, WiFi is strong enough to do this, the camera will now start taking photos again. Now let's say it is late evening and you want to check the camera photos again, from my porch 100' away, but there may still be animals around the area. I will not be able to do this because WiFi will be turned off in the camera and I will need to turn it back on, but I must be within the Bluetooth range (30') to do this. Every time you want to check your camera from your porch (anything over 30') you will need to go stand by the camera first to re-connect. You will need to do this every time you want to log into the camera. This seems to defeat the notion of not disturbing the area while you check your camera with the Defender App. This feature was very important to me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent Trail Camera (WiFi / Blue Tooth Enabled) Decent Quality 20 mega pixel trail camera. WiFi / Blue Tooth Enabled Permits viewing and control on cell phone and iPad via available downloadable app. You can also press the capture remotely. 3 modes: trail cam / video mode / and time lapse. 4 photo quality settings: Low 4 Mp / Med 8 Mp / High: 12 Mp / Ultra 20 Mp at 1920x1080 It uses Blue-Tooth & WiFi for remote usage. I have found the range to be acceptable for my usage. I don’t like the fact that you have to switch between BT & WiFi for different options. Also don’t care for the micro sd cards. Mainly because I need tweezers to handle it and an adapter to view the images. Although you can also download & delete the images remotely. Capability of a screen print on each photo with the temperature / GPS coordinates / date of capture and other data. Capable of recording sound as well. The app has control over a multitude of settings. Low glow IR - Captures Daytime Captures in color and IR low light & darkness in black & White. It is mountable via a tree strap that comes with the camera. There is no external mounting connections on the weather protecting case but you can improvise to make it mountable. Uses 4 - CR123 long life lithium batteries. You can set it for single or multiple shots. Operates in both attended and unattended modes. All of the above functions once configured will operate automatically when motion is detected by the camera.
