The Cescolite trays are better than the Patterson trays because they allow enough room to get tongs in to grab your print. But I didn't realize there were non-dimpled trays and accidentally bought this one. I'll be getting the dimpled bottom ones next since they allow chemistry to circulate under your prints. I've had prints get stuck to the bottom of these trays.
I generally use the ribbed bottom trays for developing and fixing silver gelatin prints. But when it comes to toning those prints the rib-bottomed trays require more volume of toner which can be an expensive waste (especially with gold toning).
