Midas MR18 overview

  • 1Description

The MR18 from Midas is an 18-input, portable, rackmountable mixer for iPad and Android tablets. It can be used for both live and studio environments in applications for live stage, theater, houses of worship, rehearsals, and more. It features sixteen Midas mic preamps and an integrated Wi-Fi module for wireless control, giving you the ability to move around and manipulate all parameters of your mix. Furthermore, it has USB connectivity for file storage and future system updates. The built-in 18 x 18 channel, bidirectional USB interface makes the MR18 a powerful digital mixing solution for recording directly to your iPad or Windows computer. You can then dial-in a monitoring mix with effects and zero latency while sending your stereo mix and the keyboard player's MIDI notes to your DAW for recording.

The MR18 has additional features including the MIDI in/out jack for controlling the mixer via MIDI equipment, using Mackie control protocol via a live-performance controller. This mixer also comes with several Midas effects, such as a Leisure compressor and leveling amplifier, mid/sides Fair compressor, a 5-band Combinator compressor, modulation delay, Sub Octaver, and an Edison EX1 that enables simple manipulation of the stereo field. Finally, the MR18 includes Sound Maxer and a dimensional chorus effect, which can help you to restore natural sheen and clarity to the original audio signal. Whether you're recording in the studio, or you want to capture intimate live performances, it's never been easier to record professional-sounding tracks with clarity.

    Midas MR18 reviews

MR18 18-Input Digital Mixer for iPad/Android Tablets with Wi-Fi and USB Recorder is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Mixer I have tried this on a few jobs and it works fine, and I like the options and operation, but unfortunately the WiFi is bad and my iPad and laptop keep loosing connection to the mixer which is very frustrating in the middle of a live job when changes must be made very fast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Midas touch I acquired this mixer as a replacement for a Soundcraft UI-16 that required two repairs in less than a year. At that point I realized the need of a reliable and better quality mixer within my budget and needs. I considered many options in the price and IO category. I'm always trying to save space and time while assuring high quality sound. This mixer is tiny but awesome. It worked great out of the box. Connection was easy and straightforward. The iOS app is easy to use and almost identical to the X Air. This is good since there are a lot of tutorial videos in YouTube. Sound quality is so good and in my opinion, superior to the XR, note that there are Midas preamps here. No negligible floor noise, zero, nada. Paired with my Bose L1 model 2 is phenomenal. Sound is bold and powerful. So superior to the UI also. The preamps of the Soundcraft are noisy and by no means discrete. There are effects and inserts not found in the Behringer unit like a Midas Leisure compressor, leveling amplifier and Sub Octaver, for example. By the way, the effects sound incredible and you have so many of them to choose. Fat channel strip is also powerful. Another great feature is Auto Mix, so easy to set up and works great. Neutrik connectors with locks are also present, not found in Behringer XR. It also comes with rack ears in case you want to mount it in a rack. I got a Gator case which fits perfectly and save space. So far, I'm impressed with the amount of features and options included at this price range and the Midas name on it puts this mixer, in my opinion, in a higher shelf. For my applications which includes 3-4 acoustic guitars and equal number of vocals this is a great product. Managing the sound from and iPad in your mic stand is extraordinary. Recommended.
