Sony UBP-X800 overview

  • 1Description

Enjoy 4K multimedia playback and near-4K upscaling of older sources on your compatible display with the Sony UBP-X800 HDR UHD Wi-Fi Blu-ray Disc Player. It supports high-resolution audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD plus the object-based audio formats Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The UBP-X800 features two HDMI outputs and a digital coaxial output for versatile connectivity options.

This Blu-ray player has Wi-Fi and an Ethernet port built-in to allow you to stream multimedia content from your home network. The front USB port also provides for the playback of your digitally stored media. You can connect a pair of Bluetooth headphones for private listening, or Bluetooth speakers to move your audio out of the main listening area.

4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
4K Ultra HD Blu-ray is designed to show everything in finer detail than Full HD.
4K High Dynamic Range
Combined with the clarity of 4K, HDR allows for a greater range of color contrast and brightness, enhancing details from the original film format. HDR signals contain up to 100x the brightness of a standard (SDR) signal, increasing peak brightness while retaining deep and detailed blacks.
BT.2020 Color Space
Support for the BT.2020 color space means access to a wider range of colors than conventional TV signals offer. This means content creators can deliver more saturated and realistic color, from deep aquatic blues to natural greens and vibrant reds.
Dolby Atmos
Dolby Atmos treats sounds as separate objects, outputting appropriate sound effects through ceiling-reflective speakers for a more immersive sound.
DTS:X
DTS:X can create a near-unlimited number of audio objects, which adapt to your speakers in real time for enhanced sound object placement.
High-Resolution Audio Playback
Like going from HD video to 4K, High-Resolution Audio tracks are higher quality than MP3s and CDs.
DSEE HX Upscaling
Upscale the frequency and dynamic range of MP3s and other compressed music – even your CDs – to near-high-resolution quality.
Braced Chassis
The frame-and-beam chassis is designed to offer a rigid structure to eliminate micro-vibrations, as well as effective electrical shielding, for enhanced sound and picture quality.
Play Nearly Anything
With the UBP-X800, you can watch, listen to, and stream almost anything you like, including most high-definition video and High-Resolution Audio formats, and a host of popular streaming services.
SACD Playback
If you have Super Audio CDs in your collection, the UBP-X800 will play them.
Multiple Playback Formats
The UBP-X800 supports master-quality 24-bit audio formats, from AAC and WAV, to DSD 11.2 MHz, and more.
Stream and Play Most Video File Types
Play movies via USB and your home network. This Blu-ray player supports many popular video file types.
Versatile Connectivity
Well suited for home movies and music streaming services like Spotify, the UBP-X800 has digital coaxial and two HDMI outputs to connect to different system types.
Wi-Fi with Dual-Band MIMO
The UBP-X800 offers up to 4K video streaming thanks to Wi-Fi with dual-band MIMO technology, for a strong signal, even on the edge of your wireless network's range.
Bluetooth Wireless Audio
The UBP-X800 supports Bluetooth audio transmission, so you can use your favorite Bluetooth headphones for private listening without wires.
Simultaneous HDMI and Bluetooth Audio Transmission
The UBP-X800 can send audio to your display via HDMI, and to a wireless speaker or headphones over Bluetooth, at the same time.
LDAC
LDAC transmits three times the data of normal Bluetooth for enhanced sound quality.
Stream Music to Compatible Wireless Speakers Around Your Home
Use the free SongPal app on your mobile device to stream content wirelessly from your UBP-X800 to other connected speakers and devices in your home.
LAN Port
The integrated LAN port allows you to connect to your home network using an Ethernet cable.
Separate Video and Audio HDMI Outputs
Send 4K HDR video and audio to your projector or display and A/V amplifier separately to simplify connectivity.
Digital Coaxial Output
If your amplifier isn't equipped with HDMI, you can connect the Blu-ray player to it via its digital coaxial output.

    Sony UBP-X800 reviews

UBP-X800 HDR UHD Wi-Fi Blu-ray Disc Player is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great performance and value I bought this unit during Black Friday and it arrived quickly and safely in a few days. The build quality is great. It is a very substantial 4K Blu-Ray player with almost all the features you could want. The only things I could have wished for would be Dolby HDR, bluetooth remote, and front panel display. Having said that, this machine works very well and the circuitry is top notch. It even does Youtube HDR! There aren't a lot of apps available but it's got the key ones. Not a big deal as my LG C7 has them all anyway. This is a great addition to my 4K arsenal and fantastic value at the price I paid on Black Friday. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid player for the price Being a Sony product it obviously works well with a Sony TV (using it with the XBR900E). The image quality from the player is excellent. The form factor of the unit is great. The remote isn't terrible, but it isn't that great either. I wish Sony would use a common button layout for all of their remotes. The one thing I wish the player had was a small display to show the run time of whatever you're watching. You'd think this wouldn't be a big deal, but I was surprised at how often I went to look for it (because my old player had that). The solution, of course, is to hit the status button on the remote to show you the progress on screen.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Somewhat disappointing I bought this BD player to replace a fully functional Sony BDP-S370 player which Sony no longer provides software updates for, so using it with Hulu and Netflix was no longer possible. I opted for this model to be ready for 4k when we switch our TV later this year, while still being able to play my SACDs, which the cheaper models won't do. What I do not like about this new player is how it is simplified compared to the old one. The setup options are less extensive, there's no analog audio out (to get that, you have to more than double the price to get the top model), no headphone output, and not even an informational front display. The 1080p picture quality is good. The sound is good if you switch it from the low-sample-rate that it defaults to convert everything to, and have a receiver with a good DA converter. Summary: It's a good player, but I really wish Sony wasn't on a crusade to simplify and remove options.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Customer Support Gave me the wrong advise. Unit is a good Unit. I had issues with the Hard drive spinning and using power when the machine was shut off. They told me to just unplug it. Silliest thing I ever heard. I was going to send it back but I didn't, Trying to solve it myself. Customer service needs to know their product before giving advise. To fix the hard drive from spinning and using power when the machine is off, all I had to do is take it out of Quick start up mode. Sony customer service needs to be up to speed on what they are talking about. I'm glade I resolved it myself- I do like the unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a Sony This is this years model-I bought at a local brick and mortar store-but that doesn't affect my review. First off this thing is built like a tank-it has construction I've not seen in many years of electronics development,it is true UHD and just beautiful-mine is playing on a 75 Sony TV and sound is provided by a Sony 7.2 amp-very well matched. Although I dont use it picked up my wifi instantly,it plays flawlessly. The hook up was a bit different than i was used to-but it works fine. All in all i have absolutely no complaints about this player,And with it being this years model at last years model prices pretty much,it is a great deal and w/being Dolby Atmos ready it is also future proofed (as much as possible). I would not hesitate to buy this again if I had to do over-this has set the bar for build and performance IMHO

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony 4K Blu ray player UBP-X800 Excellent product with a wide playback capability, great picture and sound quality! Up-converts DVD/Blu-ray to near 4K resolution with a very clean and crisp picture!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent streaming solution. I cannot speak of the 4K aspect or its ability to up convert to 4K but the unit will load a BD in a very reasonable time. The home screen is clean and organized and shows the disc drive as an available app. Streaming is simple and fast. I use Netflix, Amazon and SiriusXM. on a 75/75 fiber service it plays like a disc in the drive. My only negative is lack of connections. Only HDMI and digital (coax) audio. I use analog audio to an AV receiver for a wireless headset. (Most AVR's will not down mix a 5.1 digital signal to a analog stereo out. SiriusXM is a stereo 2.0 signal and works great.)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best Value 4K player It's very solid, and clean looking player. It loads and play 4K content quickly, the colors and sound are amazing on my Sony 4K TV. The only down side are no digital display and no play button on the unit. The setup, and remote is simple, it would be nice to have digital optical output for older audio device vice coaxial digital out.
