Sony X930E overview

  • 1Description

View content at four times the resolution of 1080p with the Sony XBR-X930E-Series 55"-Class HDR UHD Smart LED TV. It has a 54.6" LED edge-lit LCD display, and incorporates Sony's Motionflow XR 960 technology to digitally enhance fast-moving images to reduce blur. The XBR-X930E has built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity to allow access to your favorite apps and Internet-based content via its Android TV operating system, plus content sharing and screen mirroring with your other compatible smart devices such as your smartphone or tablet.

With one component video and four HDMI inputs, there are multiple options for connecting high-definition video sources. The component input also acts as a hybrid port, which allows you to connect a composite video source instead. Three USB ports are also onboard for connecting compatible multimedia peripherals like flash drives.

Note: Content acquired via certain apps may require subscription to a service.

Slim Backlight Drive+
With a double-edge LED panel, Slim Backlight Drive+ directs light where it's needed, boosting dimming precision for higher peak brightness, contrast, and realism.
4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme
Made to enhance 4K HDR pictures, the 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme is designed to provide real-time image processing to upscale content from any source nearer to 4K HDR quality.
Enhanced Detail with 4K HDR
Combined with 4K Ultra HD resolution, HDR video content delivers enhanced detail, color, and contrast, with a wider range of brightness than other video formats.
X-tended Dynamic Range PRO Backlighting
The X-tended Dynamic Range PRO backlighting algorithm is designed to faithfully reproduce a wide brightness range for bright lights and deep blacks.
Rediscover Every Detail with 4K X-Reality PRO
With 4K X-Reality PRO, individual parts of each scene are analyzed and matched with an image database that independently addresses texture, contrast, color, and edges.
TRILUMINOS Display for Extra Colors
The TRILUMINOS Display is designed to selectively map colors across a wide gamut, helping to ensure that subtle colors do not become oversaturated and unnatural.
Clean Look
Keep wires out of sight with the hidden cable panel structure. All of your cables are concealed behind the panel and run down through the legs of the stand, so everything looks tidy.
Slim, Flush-Surface Display
The screen has a fully flush surface and thin bezel so you can stay focused on the picture.
Motionflow XR 960 Helps Keep the Action Smooth
Motionflow XR 960 is designed to create and insert extra frames between the original ones. It compares key visual factors on successive frames, then calculates the split second of missing action in the sequences.
Front-Facing 3-Way Speaker
The front-facing speaker is designed to project voices and dialogue with more clarity than conventional downward-firing speakers.
Dual Database Processing
The 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme has two imaging databases that work together in real time to enhance your picture. By searching through thousands of picture patterns in the databases, they remove unwanted noise and upscale every image closer to nearly the clarity of 4K.
Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR
Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR is designed to create a smoother, more natural picture by reducing color banding. With 14-bit signal processing, it breaks up the solid bands of color of an 8-bit or 10-bit source, up-converting to a 14-bit-equivalent gradation, with 64 times more color levels to deliver enhanced reproduction of faces, sunsets, and other areas of subtle color gradation.
Object-Based HDR Remaster
By analyzing the objects in each scene individually, Object-Based HDR Remaster enhances color and contrast, bringing everything you watch closer to the quality of HDR. Dark elements get darker, bright elements brighter, and everything in between is more accurately lit.
Chromecast built-in for Wireless Mirroring
The XBR-X930E features Chromecast built-in so you can cast your favorite entertainment, like YouTube or Netflix, from your personal device on to the TV from Android, iOS, or your laptop.
The Content Bar Helps You Find Everything Fast
The Content Bar is designed to be unobtrusive and quickly let you find the movie, TV show, or video you're looking for. Call up the Content Bar and you can keep watching while you scan through live TV, videos on demand, downloaded TV shows, and more. You can even customize the Content Bar to show you the content you go to most often first.
Say What You Want to See with Voice Search
Voice search on Android TV provides you with the power of Google search, allowing you to find content across different services without the hassle of time-consuming text entry. You can also get recommendations; asking for a specific genre, for example, brings up a list of suitable options.
DSEE Restores Detail to Your Digital Music
Low-resolution Internet video, catch-up TV, and other heavily compressed audio files don't always sound so great because a large amount of information gets lost when digital audio is compressed. With Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) technology, lost frequency components, especially high frequencies, are restored for natural sound with a more spacious feel.
Google Play Provides a World of Content
Discover movies, TV shows, games, and more from Google Play.
ClearAudio+ for Clearer, More Immersive Audio
ClearAudio+ is designed to fine-tune TV sound for an immersive experience that seems to surround you. Hear music, dialog, and surround effects with enhanced clarity and separation, whatever you're watching.
Bluetooth Connectivity for Wireless Streaming
Bluetooth technology allows you to make a quick, short-range wireless connection that won't be interrupted by objects in the signal path. Once paired, you're free to stream all of your favorite content – including movies, pictures, and music – from your smartphone or tablet to your TV.
Clear Phase for Smooth, Balanced Frequencies
Clear Phase uses a computer model to analyze and compensate for inaccuracies in speaker response by "sampling" the speaker frequency. This information is fed back to cancel out any peaks or dips in the speaker's natural response, resulting in more natural audio with smooth, even reproduction of all frequencies.
Cinematic S-Force Front Surround
S-Force Front Surround is designed to mimic the way the brain correlates sound sources to create proper volume, time lag, and sound wave spectrum using only left and right speaker channels, allowing it to emulate three-dimensional sound fields.
Enrich Your Viewing with the TV SideView App
Find, record, and talk about your favorite TV shows using the TV SideView app. Use your tablet or smartphone (Android or iOS) to see the latest TV schedule as well as view the most popular programs currently trending. Once you've found what you want to watch, you can set an alarm so you never miss the shows you love. Live tweet your reactions and see what other viewers are saying.
IR-Equipped Remote Control
The infrared (IR) transmitter built into the remote control lets you control other devices in your home from your Sony TV remote; you can use it to control your cable box.

    Sony X930E reviews

XBR-X930E-Series 55"-Class HDR UHD Smart LED TV is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this TV I was going back & forth between this TV & an LG OLED. After much going back & forth (research, going to see them in the store, etc.) I opted for the Sony. I know OLED is the “in” thing right now, but I couldn’t be happier with this TV. The picture is phenominal. Even though I purchased a soundbar, the sound out of the speakers blows away my older Sony (LED from 2011) & sounds prettt crisp & loud to me (i’m No audiophile though). I will say everything down to the packaging seemed too-notch & it made happy to make this purchase. My only 2 negatives so far would be the Android System can be a little clunky (it does work though) & the back shrouds that covers the cables - while a nice idea - seem a little cheap. But, I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rating this XBR as excellent is merely an understatement! I also own the 2015 Sony 55 inch XBR -- the one with high-tech speakers on either side -- of which I'm a very satisfied owner. This particular XBR is even better! The XBR-55X930 excels in contrast range, considerably deeper blacks (with much, much reduced highlight bleeding), and possibly even in upscaling. Bravo Sony!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I bought the 55 and I thought has been absolutely amazing. 4K content is incredible and normal full HD looks even better. Great bright and deep dark blacks and shadows. The processing, motion, and super bitmapping work perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am happy with this purchase I have a Panasonic smart TV purchased 5 years ago, and a Sony KDL-52VL150 purchased 2009. This one is the first 4K TV for us. My wife and I compared this one with LG OLED models, Sony X900E and Samsung NU8000 in the local store. We picked this one mainly because the picture quality and acceptable price. There is no dark corners as my friend found with X900E. The Android system works very smooth (compared to my old Panasonic one). Besides TV channels, we watch Sling TV, YouTube, and Netflix a lot. I have not seen any symptoms like some review said on X900E although I think X930E share the same software. We enjoy the stunning pictures of the 4K videos on YouTube very much. B&H service is the most reliable one I that I kept using. I bought most of my photo devices from them as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but not great I have had the Sony XBR-X930E-Series 55 for only a couple of weeks. I also own a 50 1080P Panasonic plasma TV to which I compare the performance of the Sony TV for inputs other than UHD 4K. 1. Excellent blacks and whites. Great brightness and contrast. Good for sports, TV shows, movies, and PC monitoring. I haven't tried it yet with gaming. 2. Smooth color transitions. No color banding or graduations. 3. Good performance with fast moving objects but not as good as my plasma TV. 4. Excellent performance with UHD 4K signals. Good performance with 1080P. 5. Excellent performance for mirroring a PC monitor. Much better than with the plasma TV. 6. Good sound. 7. Smart features work well. Cumbersome android operating system. Many applications. Plenty of picture quality settings. The remote is good but not great. It does not have indicator lights and the more frequently used buttons are bunched up too tightly. 8. For 1080i and 720P HD signals, as from satellite TV or cable, you need a cat 2.x HDMI cable. The upscaled picture quality is fine but a tad worse compared to my plasma TV. SD picture upscaling is worse compared to my plasma TV. 9. Color gamut is excellent but not as good as with my plasma TV. 10. The picture quality degrades rapidly (washing out) when observing at angles wider than 15 degrees. When observing from closer to 3 ft, the picture washes out toward the edges so it is not a good TV for watching a 4K picture very close up. 11. It does not have the image retention problems and automatic brightness limiting that present OLED TVs have. Only in that respect, it is superior to the present day OLED TVs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too Soon For Full Evaluation This evaluation is being submitted in response to an email soliciting a "review." First, I don't publish reviews but rather personal opinions and comments on personal evaluations. As the "headline" for our comments suggests, having used this TV for less than one month isn't adequate time to provide an effective opinion. Our last HDTV (LED), a 52" Samsung, lasted only 16 months before failing, a common issue with Samsung from user comments we've read and from authorized repair facilities we've spoken with. That is one of the reasons we opted for Sony this time around. Our previous Sony Bravia (LCD) lasted 11 years and THEN was purchased by an adult "gamer" and avid football fan. Due to insufficient length of ownership to provide an adequate evaluation including what we consider one of the top features, reliability, this review is based simply on set-up, installation and performance thus far. Removal from the B&H exterior and Sony factory packaging should be done by two people, four hands. While the TV is not particularly heavy for one person it is nonetheless very cumbersome and almost impossible for one individual to remove the TV from the packaging without risking damage (hands must be placed UNDER the TV, using access "cutouts" in the Styrofoam to safely lift the TV out of the protective packaging, thus "four" hands while avoiding pressure on the TV screen/glass). Set-up (TV "pedestal" assembly, mounting the TV to the pedestal, etc) takes about 10-15 minutes. Once placed on our entertainment stand, basic connections (power, HDMI, etc) take another 10-15 minutes (I use only basic features: Computer, DVD/Blue Ray player, Yamaha AVR ... all HDMI, since we only want to watch TV; I'm on technology overload, with office, customer support, etc. and do NOT need yet one more challenge especially for something that's intended strictly for our limited entertainment purposes, streaming movies, watching DVDs). Once the aforementioned set-up and installation were complete (approx. 20-30 minutes total), basic TV programming took another 20-30 minutes (we stumbled over connection to our external Klipsch speakers, however, that was also due to an entirely different set-up with our Yamaha AVR from the previous TV, the dead Samsung). Even at 1080i, the quality of this Sony is outstanding, excellent at almost all angles (but then, we don’t watch TV from a “side” angle!). From what I read and heard, I really wasn’t expecting this type of high quality viewing. The one drastic improvement over the old Sony Bravia, even the newer dead Samsung, is the blacks, darks or shadows are much more discernible, clearer, images sharper. We’ve read where several owners have compared the image quality as not as good as on their older plasma TVs … (long, dramatic pause) … hmmm. Although we watch very little TV, movies, etc I have a difficult time comprehending that or actually believing that. That just doesn’t make sense, a lower resolution, outdated technology providing better image quality? Regardless, we consider ourselves to be fairly (maybe a LOT!) critical and find the image quality on this TV excellent, an unexpected, value-added feature, even living up to Sony’s hype of “stunning realism.” For ease of set-up, build quality (these Sony Bravias are solidly built!), overall image quality during our very short ownership we rate the Sony XBR-55X930E 5-stars. Although I’m very hesitant to recommend any product without having used it for a period of more than one year, we would highly recommend Sony. For reliability, if this lasts even half as long as our old Sony Bravia LCD did, at least more than 3 years, we’ve lowered our standards to being satisfied with that. As a final note, in our discussions with local factory authorized TV service centers, we were advised that newer TVs are not built with the reliability that they were even 10-15 years ago (our interpretation: new TVs are disposables) since U.S. consumers do not want to pay $3,000 or more for the same TV configuration that can be purchased for less than $1,800 for that reliability.
