ORCA OR-27 Overview

The Orca OR-27 is a small bag designed for audio mixers and recorders such as the Zoom F4, Zaxcom Maxx, TASCAM DR-701, and other similar-sized units. It features an internal honeycomb frame which cradles your gear, creating a cage that protects the devices inside.

Two handles and a shoulder strap are included with the bag, which can be accessed from six directions, thus making it eminently usable by field mixers and sound recordists on location. The top is fashioned from transparent TPU and can be positioned in all directions. Three sponges inside the bag help you adjust the mixer to any desired position. The secure buckle system holds your mixer safely in place.

ORCA OR-27 Reviews

Perfect bag for a basic kit

This bag is perfect if you need to fly and intend to bring your kit onboard with you! Its built with an SD Mixpre3 II with a pair of Lectro 411 receivers, BDSv4 and NP1 in the front pocket and a slim Anker 10000 mAH PD battery in the back pocket for the Mixpre. I also have the Cable Techniques MX-POWERSLED so my Mixpre has two independent power sources (FYI the output of the BDS is only 5v and the Mixpre requires 9v through its USB-C port). I also use the ORCA Aluminum Lift System for ORCA Audio Bags to keep the Mixpre from shifting around and at just the right height for the bag. Since this is a small bag it does not have open sides (unless you unzip them) but I had no trouble routing cables. My boom cable simply comes out of the top which is fine if you have the bag harnessed up! This kit, my traveler boom pole and XLR, mkh8060 mic and Rycote classic softie as well as spare NP1 and Anker, TX's, elements, and ever my boom holder fit neatly into a Pelican 1510!

Light, comfortable, works

I bought this to use with a Zoom F4 recorder and a wireless lav and stick mic set. It has just enough room for the recorder, a slim D-Tap battery, extra AA batteries, lav mics, receivers, a couple 2ft xlr cables and a few small odds and ends. I hang the earphones on the strap and the base of the stick mic fits into one of the loops on the bag so it can sit on top of the recorder when I’m not using it. Great if you are looking for a minimal lightweight system. I like the pad on the shoulder strap too.

The Orca 27 is a medium sized bag, you can fit the Mix Pre 6 II but with the Sony L-NPF battery sled you have to stick to the 550 or smaller batteries, if you put a 750 or two batteries your going to have problems with fit
Asked by: matthew
Dimensions of the Mixpre-6 II are 6.5 x 1.4 x 4.6" (166 x 36 x 118mm) and the interior of the OR-28 is 8.5 x 4.5 x 6.5" (215 x 115 x 165mm). This should give you a better idea of the fit for the recorder by itself and how much room there is for your batteries.

I have a Zoom h6, I would like to know if it fits vertically in this bag?
Asked by: Juan
The Zoom H6 is a small recorder, if you just need the bag for the recorder the first link bellow will be a better option, however if you also have other items such as receivers the second link bellow is a good fit. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1003289-REG/porta_brace_ar_zh6_case_for_zoom_h6.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1476941-REG/orca_or_272_audio_bag_with_detachable.html

Can I fit a shure fp33 in this bag?

Can I fit a shure fp33 in this bag?
Asked by: Adolfo
The Shure FP33 Stereo ENG Mixer is slightly bigger in depth at 6-3/8 inches than the interior depth of the OR-27 Small Sound Bag which is 5-1/10". A more suitable bag solution for the Shure FP33 ENG Mixer is ORCA OR-28 Mini Audio Bag - https://bhpho.to/3SYeNMd or the PortaBrace MXC-33 Mixer Combination Case for Shure FP33 - https://bhpho.to/3UWDhbj.

MixPre-6 and OR-27 is that a good match? With/without the Sony L battery sled?
Asked by: Anonymous
Good match, but no sled. I cram a USB battery into the front sleeve thats close to my body. You'll also have to have low profile XLR cables plugged in because the space on the sides are small. But it is possible. Everything is tight and portable in my setup.

question

Is this bag too small for the mixpre 3 with the L battery sled? OR-28 a better fit?
Asked by: Kevin
If it's just for those 2 things it will probably be ok
