Feiyu SPG Plus overview

  • 1Description

Use the Feiyu SPG Plus 3-Axis Gimbal Rig to capture smooth, floating shots with your iPhone or other smartphone, or add foam padding to use with the GoPro action camera. The SPG Plus dual-handled design creates less operator fatigue when compared to single-arm models, allowing for extended shooting times. This gimbal enables you to easily balance your phone or camera by adjusting the cradle's sliding arm with one thumb knob; no counterweights are needed. The SPG Plus Gimbal can accommodate iPhone models up to 7 Plus, Samsung Note-series phones, GoPro3/4/5 action cameras, and other phones 2.2 to 3.3" wide. The sliding arm also makes it easy to balance your phone when accounting for the weight of a clip-on lens or other accessory. Besides relieving arm strain, the two-handled design of the SPG Plus helps minimize shake from body movements, and provides greater stability while still offering the option of single-hand operation.

The SPG Plus Gimbal provides several pro-style features for improving your video capture. Its base includes five 1/4"-20 threaded mounts where you can mount a light, microphone, or other accessory. If you're shooting in dim light, take advantage of the Bluetooth remote control shutter button on the handle. Once paired with your phone, the shutter control enables you to capture exposures up to one full second. The SPG Plus Gimbal's internal battery can run up to eight hours on a single charge, and a power bank can be attached to the micro-USB port to extend your shooting time.

Blogging about your favorite pastime or a special event? The SPG Plus features automatic vertical mode switching, and the base can be configured for capturing hands-free selfie views. Download the free Feiyu ON app to take advantage of handy functions such as active face-tracking, programmable time-lapse capture with 360° panning, and gain/white balance/zoom controls. The SPG Plus Gimbal's additional features include LED status lights, USB-based charging, a 1/4"-20 threaded mount for attaching to a tripod or other base, and a comfortable handgrip.

Note: Use of separately available foam pads is required for GoPro compatibility.

    Feiyu SPG Plus reviews

SPG Plus 3-Axis Gimbal Rig for Select Smartphones & GoPro3/4/5 is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great build quality, very unfriendly to use I got w the intention to use for iPhone and Gopro 6. I used the Karma grip before was nice and easy to use but I felt that would be better if have a Joystick to a more precise control of the movements. This Gimbal at first look like a good solution (iphone+ gopro ) For me my experience w resume w one word :FRUSTRATION bluetooth no reliable, after lots of try , manage to connect but could not getting into settings. Becal is a Rig, you have to keep straight as possible, if you tilt forward or backward a lot will cause the gimbal to rotate sideways. That limits the low and hight shots. Because is a Rig w no case, make harder for carrying around. do not fit easily into a backpack

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My third Feiyu gimbal I like this gimbal a lot. I also own an SPG Live and an MG V2. The double handle puts the shutter button right under your thumb, and having the gimbal between the dual handles stabilizes it even more because it's on the fulcrum point. Put cold shoes on the 1/4 x 20 accessory mounts for mic / lights, etc, I used Small Rig cold shoes. Here's a trick: Turn on the Bluetooth WITHOUT using the Feiyu On app and the shutter button works for the iPhone camera app and the ProCam app. I set up a DIY counterweight to add a Moment wide angle lens and it works 100%.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great backup! I purchased the Feiyu SPG as a backup and 2nd angle for my skateboarding filing for my youtube channel and I have to say that this has works great, it produces steady footage and its got a easy grip even for a novice. Would recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Setup Using Feiyu ON App After initially powering up this device with my smartphone attached, I was a little perplexed as to why the pan motor seemed to bump against ‘stops’ as I rotated the rig with my body. This results in unwatchable video that jerks from left to right after hitting the stops. I watched some online videos to see if others were experiencing the same thing, but everyone seemed to be very happy with the performance and wer e displaying nice smooth video. I noticed on the Feiyu Tech promo video that there were some adjustments available in their Feiyu ON app, so I downloaded it. The parameter that seemed to correct my problem is called Follow Dead Zone. By default, it was set at 10 degrees, which explains why it ‘bumped’ and changed direction when you rotated 5 degrees in either direction. From playing with it, I determined that this dead zone must be the angular rotation of the rig over which the panning motor (there were identical settings for tilt as well) attempts to keep the phone pointed in the same direction it was pointed at before you started to move it. It can be adjusted from 0 to 45 degrees. A wide dead zone is great if you always want the camera pointing along a straight line even if you rotate the rig a little, but was not very helpful if you wanted to walk along with someone and have the camera aimed at them constantly as you do a 360 around them. To remedy this, I set the pan dead zone to zero. That way, instead of always wanting to point in one direction, the camera rotates with the rig. The Follow Speed adjusts how responsive the camera direction is to changes in the direction of the rig. The app also gives you control over ‘Motor Dynamics’. I’ve played with these and have absolutely no idea what they do. The depiction of which motor you’re adjusting is confusing, which didn’t help. After doing the Follow settings, I was able to produce very satisfactory video, with the camera responding to where I was aiming the rig as I walked and twisted left and right. As everyone in the reviews I watched said, this is a very nicely made unit. As with anything made in China, the manual was an absolutely useless piece of rubbish, though. Everyone online complained about the difficulty in getting it to pair via Bluetooth (not properly explained in the manual), so they actually include a separate card which explains that you have to push up on the joystick while pushing the Function button before it will work. I’m looking forward to getting some lovely smooth footage with this rig. I wonder how many others have experienced the same out-of-box disappointment and couldn’t figure out how to set it up properly. I hope this review helps others who might have had the same experience as me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed. I needed a relatively inexpensive way to get action shots with an iPhone8 Plus, while holding two shotgun microphones up top. This performed well and got the job done. Setting up the perfect balance to get the horizontal axis level takes a little trial and error, but with some practice I can make adjustments pretty quickly-and once it's adjusted I don't have to go back and set it again. I didn't use the app whatsoever, which is part of the reason this gimbal gets a lot of hate. Instead I used ProCam. The controls worked OKAY for me, I wish there were a few more degrees of speed for smoother turning of the camera, but then again, the fast responsiveness provided some very cool shots. I wanted to use my phone to shoot professional looking video, and to do that I needed a gimbal to smooth it out. This did it and the footage is great. Overall I'm really satisfied. It's $100 cheaper now, I would buy it again if I needed one. FYI, if you have a large phone you will need to remove the case.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Seems well made with major issues Can't get to connect with Samsung Galaxy S5 and so far can't balance it. Did not come with adapter foam for GoPro so kind of out of luck using it so far. Instructions are almost useless. My phone sees the gimbal but says rejected by it?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Foam Pads for Use with Action Cameras These were not included in the unit I received. Feiyu-Tech has indicated that they should not have been, but they can be purchased from China. Also, BT connection is difficult to establish and smartphone SW needs work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PUT STEADY BACK IN CELL PHONES The Feiyu-Tech SPG Plus is my second Feiyu-Tech product, I also have the Feiyu-Tech G4 Pro. Both devices really take the jarring out of your movements. The SPG Plus adds a little more support using both hands and the ability to add a couple of light and a shotgun mic. I own a video production company and used the SPG Plus and the G4 Pro with Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and a Samsung Galaxy S9 to shoot a complete wedding and reception in High Definition and after editing on Final Cut Pro Ten you could not tell that I did not use my big HD Sony cameras. If you do a lot of cell phone video I recommend the Feiyu-Tech line of stabilizers for a professional look to your cell video. The G4 Pro can be mounted to a tripod and for a cinematic touch mount the G4 Pro to a Monopod at full extension for a crane effect.
