With a built-in card reader, you can easily back up photos and videos from SD memory cards, coming from digital cameras, GoPros, and other recording devices, to the My Passport Wireless Pro without the need for a computer. WD has armed the My Passport Wireless Pro with an 802.11ac Wi-Fi module along with a hard drive so you can access and share up to 4TB of content wirelessly with tablets, computers, digital cameras, and other wireless devices. The My Passport Wireless Pro lets you stream up to 8 HD videos simultaneously and is formatted in exFAT, delivering compatibility with Windows, Mac, and other systems. Moreover, you can set up the My Passport Wireless Pro as a hotspot to share Internet connectivity with other devices.

Aside from wireless connectivity, the My Passport Wireless Pro comes equipped with an internal 6400 mAh battery, which provides it with all-day power (up to 10 hours), and a USB 2.0 port for recharging mobile devices. The USB 2.0 port can also be used to transfer data from thumb-sized USB drives and other external USB storage drives to the My Passport Wireless Pro. In addition, a USB 3.0 connection is available to recharge its internal battery as well as quickly transfer multimedia content to a computer system without Wi-Fi abilities.

Wireless Storage
Built with 802.11ac technology, the My Passport Wireless Pro is able to deliver fast data transfers and smooth HD media streaming capabilities. Battery Life
Take the My Passport on a long trip to continuously stream videos while on the road. It lasts up to 10 hours while streaming a 720p, 3 Mb/s video to one device over Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz. Actual battery life depends on file size, type, format, bitrate, devices connected, Wi-Fi connectivity, settings, and other factors.
Built-in Power Bank
You can charge your smartphone, tablet, and other USB devices on the go via an integrated USB 2.0 port on the 6400 mAh power bank.
USB Technology
The two built-in USB ports quickly transfer a large amount of RAW images or Full-HD vides to or from your computer.

    WD WDBSMT0040BBK-NESN reviews

4TB My Passport Wireless Pro USB 3.0 External Hard Drive is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just returned it I purchased this product as an external drive for backup purposes to take on photo trips so that I wouldn't have to take my laptop. I was told it could be used with RAW files and that I would be able to view files on a Mobile device to make sure all files were imported. However, I learned that I would not be able to see these files on an iPhone, but just that I used a certain amount of storage. This was unacceptable so I returned it, and suggested to WD that they continue to work on improving this feature for RAW data. If you're someone who shoots in jpeg, I think this is a great device to have for backing up photos.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It doesn't work The idea is great, but the execution is a disaster. I bought my unit while on a trip to be able to back up my pictures with the SD reader. Big mistake. First you have to set up the disk through a computer or similar device (which I didn't have while on the trip). Then, my unit doesn't work. The wifi is not working. The SD reader does not function. The unit doesn't reboot properly. It can only be used as a normal external hard drive, connected via cable to the computer. As a wireless backup, at least my unit, is a disaster. WD support is non existent either. Really disappointing. Is there any other company that manufactures a similar device that works? I'm very interested in the idea but I'd like to buy a product that works. Thanks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WD 4TB Wireless Pro Setting up the wireless connection with WiFi between the PC and My Passport Wireless Pro is not straightforward on Windows 10, based on the WD internet instruction. Once the WiFi connection is established, the WD device is recognized as shown in the File Explorer. The WD app with Android also works well. Using USB 3 to connect with the PC, the Wireless Pro is quickly connected. However, do not install any apps on the PC for the Wireless Pro connection; or the Wireless Pro cannot be recognized with the USB connection. The direct transfer of picture files from a SD card has not been tested yet. The My Passport Wireless Pro 4TB is recommended for huge mobile data backup

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Deception and lack of compliance to the ad. Does not perform This is a terrible device that is deception in its purest form. I bought this device for storing travel information. Took photos, put the memory card in the device and transferred the data to work on. The same is shown in all commercials of this device. But when I got it it turned out that it does not see the memory card after they have been used in fotoapparate, I had a Canon 5d markIII and mark IV, as well a6500, sony and a7III and this device does not read the memory card after shooting. Only computer. This is a huge deception and support does not want to help and says so and should be, although the device does not perform its functions!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very capable portable backup solution The earlier reviews I've read of the My Passport Wireless Pro drive were not particularly good. But I believe these were all based on expectations that were unreasonable for what this product does well. It's a small, portable backup solution that just happens to have a few added sharing/streaming features. The disconnect seems to be that others wanted a robust media server that has the processing power and performance of a desktop or server PC. This is simply not a reasonable expectation for this product. The My Passport Wireless Pro is a portable backup/storage device that will work VERY well for photographers/videographers who need to backup the contents of an SD card (or other USB-based storage) while traveling. This product can connect wirelessly via Wifi to allow management by a device with its simple-but-capable app or by a PC through a browser. As an added bonus, I have copied some MP3 files to it and plan to stream those to my iPad while relaxing during my travels. I've taken some time to configure all of the settings based on how I expect to use it, but I have not yet had a chance to use it in a real-world travel setting. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I've already noticed that the file copy performance is a bit slower than I would expect, even for a slower (presumably 5400 rpm) drive. But for my purposes, this is not a problem. I also purchased the companion hard case, which includes space for a bunch of SD cards (more than I own). I believe this will be a durable solution for protecting it from minor bumps during travel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great but could be better Essentially it works as announced when it comes to safeguarding photo and video files by copying them from SD cards. But some issues are annoying and could be improved. When copying an SD card it really copies everything including the SD's folder structure. That is really annoying. When I do similar copying from my camera to my PC the software ignores the SD folder structure and creates a folder and file structure that is simple and to the point and can be determined in advance. I also have not been able (yet?) to use the Passport as a media server with my Samsung TVs although that should be possible.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice for what I need I am mainly interested in downloading RAW files for storage while on trips. I wanted the ability to backup my pictures without a laptop, using only an iPhone or iPad. So far I have simply put in an SD card, with both JPEGs and RAW files, and downloaded the photos. When the blue lights quit blinking the pictures were downloaded. I downloaded the WD app to both my iPad and iPhone. The iPad worked best and provided good control over the management of the files. I was able to see my RAW files on the iPad—images not just icons. Given the reviews, I was surprised that the RAW files were visible. I was also surprised how easy it was to link the Passport to my phone and iPad using the Passport wireless. I also hooked the Passport to my own wireless system without difficulty. It seems well made. The basic switches and lights are simple and intuitive. The users manual is a download. I don’t dare give this product 5 stars because my use will be so limited. I only want to download RAW files via the SD slot and control the files with my IPad, then upload them at the back end to a computer. It does this relatively intuitively for me. The other functions, such as using it as a hotspot, broadcasting movies or music to devices, downloading images directly by WiFi and so on are currently not interesting to me.
