    Sony STR-DN1080 reviews

    STR-DN1080 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good sound, plenty of features Replaced a 17-year-old AV receiver with this STR-DN1080 and I'm pretty happy with this. The move was mostly technology-driven rather than a quest for better audio quality or more power. In that regard, it's a vast improvement. Being able to cast/stream to the receiver, take HDMI inputs and switch them, decode DD+, Atmos, etc weren't even options when I got my last receiver. There were some unexpected limitations however: You cannot listen to one input while watching another source's video. The on-screen menu system is slow (but well designed). The remote is also a bit sparse. For instance, there are inputs that can't be switched to, presets that can't be activated, etc without navigating the on-screen menus. I do a lot of listening without the TV on, and hate having to turn it on just to change some receiver settings. The mobile app is useful in this regard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best A/V receiver on the market for the money I had a Denon 2807 for many years before it went out. I researched the Sony 1080 and found it to have the highest rating from CNET and other reputable review sites, so when the price dropped $100, I grabbed it. Thus far, having it only a week, I can say that it delivers a much better and wider sound stage than my previous receiver when watching movies, and the music quality is outstanding, even when listening to AAC or Mp3 recordings. I am very glad I purchased this unit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from basic with small issues Fairly basic AVR. Won't take off for lack of major features like no internet radio as it's a lesser model with a lower price point. AVR menu is lacking and poorly designed. CEC has issues (a device turns on AVR, AVR switches to device and turns on TV, AVR then switches off device because TV turned on). Lack of minor features that every AVR should have (volume reset when turning on, max volume limit). If you can get this on sale at a really good price, it's worth it. If not, spend another $100-150 for a better one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from more than expected for the price in any product surveyed flawless victory. not a toy this thing is hi-tech. connectivity and features are superior excellent. sound/video distribution control also superior excellent. power control also superior excellent. I think it is toying with my speaker system and HDTV. this animal needs more. for the specs: trust the manufacturer, everything written is backed up with a punch. controller is very good; as always I wish there would be a complete magical overriding controller, but still the thing is very good. ah, let me never forget: B&H rocks, those guys there are five stars establishment

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great sound paired with XBR-X940E 75inch TV Great paired with the TV. Turns on when the TV turns on and sound automatically pipe from the TV to the amplifier. No need for a soundbar when it feeds directly into the home theater surround sound. Super easy set up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great stereo for the money Great stereo. one caveat zone 2 can't play hdmi audio. short of that I love it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good so far Only have used about 30 days but seems to be a nice receiver. The only thing is I don't find the controls to be very intuitive especially with the Zone 2 features. Takes a while to get used too. My spouse still isn't comfortable with operating the receiver yet. Also I miss not having AM radio on this unit. It's predecessor had it and seems like a step back. But all in all a good product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DON'T BOTHER. Waited 3 months on backorder for this, and it was a lemon almost from the moment I finished setting it up. Constantly loses sync with TV. I've endured countless hours of tech support misery with their worse-than-useless customer support. Wish I could return it. My theory is that it was thrown together blindfolded to try to keep up with backorders. Will NEVER buy Sony again.
