Dell Area-51 R2 Overview

Designed to drive VR (virtual reality) and powerful gaming options, the highly configurable Alienware Area-51 R2 Gaming Desktop Computer from Dell is powered by a 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7-6800K Six-Core processor and 15MB of Intel Smart Cache, all of which will allow you to run multiple applications simultaneously and provide significant performance gains when running multi-threaded tasks. If more power is needed, the CPU can deliver extra performance by increasing its clock speed up to 3.6 GHz utilizing Intel's Turbo Boost 2.0 technology and Turbo Boost Max 3.0 technology. The 16GB of 2133 MHz Quad-Channel DDR4 RAM allows the computer to run multiple applications simultaneously and quickly access frequently-used files and programs.

For long-term storage of your files, a 2TB 7200 rpm SATA III hard drive offers quick access to your data. If you want to add external storage drives or other peripherals, the Area-51 R2 features six USB 3.0 Type-A ports and four USB 2.0 Type-A ports. For users who wish to add additional components to the drive bays or upgrade the existing storage, there are three internal 3.5" SATA drive bays and two internal 2.5" SATA drive bays. The dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card features 8GB of GDDR5X RAM over a 256-bit memory interface with a bandwidth of 320 GB/s and delivers a sharp, clear picture while allowing for multiple simultaneous displays to be used via its two DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.0, and one Dual-Link DVI video outputs at resolutions up to 7680 x 4320 @ 60 Hz. Whether you are listening to music, watching a movie, or playing a game, the integrated Creative Sound Core 3D audio controller outputs 5.1-channel HD audio using 3.5mm or S/PDIF jacks and delivers higher fidelity than standard controllers.

The Alienware Area-51 R2 Gaming Desktop Computer is powered by an 850W power supply that can power multiple GPUs and includes an Alienware USB multimedia keyboard, an Alienware USB optical mouse, and a power cord. The installed operating system is Windows 10 Home (64-bit).

General Features
Up to 64GB RAM
The four 288-pin DIMM sockets can support up to 64GB of 2400 MHz Quad-Channel RAM, or 16GB per socket.
SuperMulti DVD Burner
The slot-loading SuperMulti DVD Burner will read from and write to a variety of optical CD and DVD media, including dual-layer discs.
Gigabit Ethernet
Integrated Gigabit Ethernet allows for Internet access when connected to a router, modem, or network switch.
802.11ac Wi-Fi & Bluetooth 4.0
Connect to the Internet wirelessly using 802.11ac Wi-Fi and pair with compatible peripherals using Bluetooth 4.0 technology.
6 x USB 3.0 Type-A & 4 x USB 2.0 Type-A
The Alienware Area-51 R2 features six USB 3.0 Type-A ports and four USB 2.0 Type-A ports that will allow you to connect external peripherals such as hard drives, printers, and memory card readers. At 5 Gb/s, USB 3.0 transfers data up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0, which operates at 480 Mb/s. USB 3.0's high-speed transfer rate helps to significantly reduce data transfer times, meaning you spend less time waiting and more time focusing on the task at hand.
9-in-1 Media Card Reader
The integrated 9-in-1 media card reader supports Secure Digital (SD), Secure Digital Input Output (SDIO), Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC), SD Extended Capacity (SDXC 3.0), MultiMediaCard (MMC) and MultiMediaCard Plus (MMC+), Memory Stick (MS), Memory Stick PRO (MS PRO), Memory Stick PRO Duo (with adapter), and Memory XC Duo (with adapter).
PCIe Expansion / GPU
There are three PCIe x16 slots, one PCIe x4 slot, and one PCIe x1 slot. The PCIe x16 slots will support single- and double-width, full-length graphics cards. The GPU controller also supports dual/triple AMD and NVIDIA (SLI). If you have two graphics cards, PCIe x16 slot 1 will be the primary graphics card. If you have three graphics cards, PCIe x16 slot 3 will be the primary graphics card.
850W Power Supply
The 850W power supply supports multiple GPUs.
Windows 10 Home
Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.
