Vello ShutterBoss III overview

  • 1Description

Set up elaborate time-lapses, perform long exposures, or simply trigger your camera remotely with the Wireless ShutterBoss III Remote Switch with Digital Timer from Vello, which is available here with cables for select Sony cameras. This remote features a 2.4 GHz frequency along with a 250' range for maximum versatility and reliability. The transmitter also has access to 99 channels and features specialized functionality such as continuous shooting, self-timer, long time exposures, and interval shooting.

Multiple time settings can be accessed from the transmitter's backlit LCD screen, such as the ability to set a number of shots from 1-999 or to infinitely take photos. The duration of an exposure can also be set all the way up to 99 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds in one-second increments.

The ShutterBoss III does work as a dual-function release, allowing users to press halfway to focus or press full to trigger the shutter. It can also be set to take multiple photos with a single press of the shutter and has LED indicators to confirm pre-focus and exposure. The ShutterBoss III can also function both wired or wirelessly to better fit your particular setup. Additionally, both the receiver and the transmitter run on two AAA batteries.

    Vello ShutterBoss III reviews

Wireless ShutterBoss III Remote Switch with Digital Timer for Select Sony Cameras is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works on my a7 III I've used the wired version before on Canons and was satisfied but having the wire dangling was sometimes an issue. Wireless eliminated the potential vibration. Most importantly to me is it works on my Sony a7 III which the wired shutterboss did not. I had to return a Sony version of the shutter boss II B&H was great as always. A bonus with the wireless model is you can use the same unit on Canons if you have the correct wire adapter and you can also operate it directly from the handset not wirelessly if you need. Wirelessly I am able to start/stop video on my 5D IV when on a steadicam without the initial shake. The only issue I have is the handset does not have an On/off switch

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great wireless trigger with timed intervals Works great with my Sony a9. Simple enough you don't need to read the instructions. Make sure your Sony is in Single shot mode. If in multiple shot mode you will get two photos at each shot interval. Good range on the remote. Very light weight equipment. Plastic seems hard enough but I'd be careful from dropping it. Rubberized buttons and a larger remote would be nice but this does the job. Perfect for selfies and group shots when the photographer has to be in the shot and the mulitiple shots with the timed interval means no more going back and forth for each shot. Also good for astrophotography.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well for my Sony A7Riii I just received the unit (Sony edition) and tested it. It worked out of the box and as advertised, so full marks for the function. Some observations: - The plug for the camera multi-terminal is a tight fit. To get it fully seated bit of wiggling was needed. - Usually in any battery compartment the minus pole (flat side) of the battery goes towards the spiral spring. This is different here (only for the receiver!) for one of the batteries (check p22 of the booklet). - The booklet is well written, concise and accurate. - Operating the small buttons with gloves could be a challenge, will see. Looking forward to using the unit on my next panorama shooting.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lots of issues with this remote I would caution people to not purchase this item until Vello does a better job making sure it works correctly with Sonys. I have an A9. Just started using the Vello today, and in single shot mode the unit keeps taking pictures, and will not stop. I searched online and discovered many other Sony users have the exact same problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great trigger! Great remote if you want to trigger your camera remotely. Easy to set up and intuitive to use. You could use the Sony app to trigger the camera remotely but the downside is that it drains the battery too fast. I have been trying to capture a couple of hummingbirds in my patio but no luck. They were too shy to stick around when I can be seen. By using the shutterboss, I could be hidden in the living room and trigger the camera when I see the bird at the feeder.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective product and customer service (Vello) Wireless function did not work out of the box. Called Vello's customer service. Was not hard to get a human, but after taking information, he said he'll have to research the product and get back to me. Four days of waiting. Exchanging through B&H and will update rating based on new item functions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have bought a few wirelessremotes .. . I have boughta few wireless remotes, none have had the build quality and serviceability that Shutterboss has. It's nice to get quality, reliability and confidence in your equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Impressed I just received mine yesterday. I haven't been able to test it extensively but I think it is a substantial improvement over the shutter boss II (which by the way doesn't work on the Sony A7iii. I had to send that one back). Because of having to send back the Shutter Boss II I was able to compare the features. The shutter boss III has a half press focus and I don't believe the shutter boss 2 does. The II has a locking shutter but I don't see that it is necessary when using the infinite open shutter function on the shutter boss III. These 2 things and the wireless functionality are the main differences. I love these extra features and I'm glad the shutter boss II didn't work out. As soon as I returned it the shutter boss III appeared in the "deal zone." It still cost twice as much but it is really worth it to be able to not take self portraits. I plan to do so with my wife on vacations and having the ability to set any combination of time intervals, duration, and number of shots WIRELESSLY is awesome! Can't wait to use it for that and for astrophotography and timelapses since the Sony a7 III is laking in this area. Kind of glad it is or I never would have had the motivation to get this. I wish the play memories app offered the same versatility. It doesn't but even if it did it would be unlikely to have a 250ft range.
