Intel BOXNUC7I5BNK overview

  • 1Description

The Intel NUC7i5BNK Mini PC NUC Kit sports a 7th-generation 2.2 GHz Intel Core i5-7260U dual-core processor as well as storage and memory slots, letting you build a compact system with the performance to handle mid-level applications. The NUC7i5BNK comes with two SODIMM slots that can hold up to 32GB of DDR4 2133 MHz memory chips. For internal storage, it is armed with an M.2 slot that can accept SATA- or PCIe-based SSDs with a length of up to 80mm. Once an optional M.2 SSD is mounted, you will need to install an operating system such as Windows 10 or Linux. Furthermore, Intel has designed this NUC with a slim design so you can mount it behind a VESA-compatible monitor with an included mounting bracket, letting you maximize desktop space.

The Intel Core i5-7260U processor features two cores that operate at a stock speed of 2.2 GHz for handling everyday apps. For demanding software programs, each of the cores can run at speeds of up to 3.4 GHz. In addition to the speeds, the Intel Core i5-7260U processor is equipped with 4MB of cache memory and has a thermal design power of 15W.

Intel's NUC7i5BNK Mini PC NUC kit utilizes an onboard Intel HD Graphics 640 chipset that delivers up to 4K visuals to your monitors utilizing a built-in HDMI 2.0 port as well as a Thunderbolt 3 port that offers daisy-chaining capabilities with up to six devices, including monitors, external storages, and external graphics cards. The Thunderbolt 3 connection transmits data at a rate of up to 40 Gb/s and utilizes a reversible USB Type-C design, letting you connect with USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 cable the first try. To complete the multimedia experience, 7.1-channel surround sound is provided through the video connections and a combo headphone/microphone jack. Other notable connections include four USB 3.0 ports for a keyboard, mouse, printer, and external storage drive. If you need more USB ports, there's a USB 2.0 header to support an optional adapter with two USB 2.0 ports. Aside from wired connections, Bluetooth 4.2 is on board so the system can wirelessly connect to speakers, mice, and other Bluetooth-enable devices.

On the exterior, the NUC is outfitted a built-in microphone along with a multi-colored LED ring, so you can personalize it with a color you want. There's also an integrated card slot for reading and writing to microSDXC memory cards. For accessing networks, the NUC7i5BNK is equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet port and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. In addition, Intel includes an external 65W wall-mountable power adapter for powering the NUC.

    Intel BOXNUC7I5BNK reviews

NUC7i5BNK Mini PC NUC Kit is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little PC I've bought several NUC kits over the years, and I like them all. This one is no exception. Just a few minutes needed to install the RAM & M.2 storage, and it's ready for OS. Dead quiet, solid PC.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product with one issue! Great product with one issue! Worked well, is quite fast due to higher clock speeds, 14nm process also adds to speed however it is noisy. You can turn the fan down in the bios but then your nuc becomes unstable. Apart from the fan noise, it's awesome.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compact and quiet, but the wifi is weak I've been using a 2nd-gen NUC as my main home computer for the past 4 years, which I decided to replace because the fan was getting loud and annoying. Last year I tried the 6th-gen version of this product (NUC6i5SYK), but they launched with heat regulation problems that caused it to crash when doing anything graphics-intensive. Those problems appear to have been fixed in the NUC7i5BNK. I did notice that the wifi reception was particularly weak when compared to my 2nd-gen NUC. The built-in antennae don't seem to be very good. I was able to get better reception by plugging in a small USB wifi dongle (the size of a thumb drive, costs about $12). This product shares the same motherboard as the NUC7i5BNH, so although the stock chassis is quite compact and can only fit an M.2 SSD, you can still attach a larger SATA drive to the board if you want to - you just won't be able to fit everything in the case. The fan noise was improved compared to my 2nd-gen, but that may just be a matter of time. Third party fanless kits do exist if you're ok with assembling them. They're usually larger and heavier than the stock chassis, and they do add to the cost to get that completely silent experience. Overall, I like this device and think it's a good upgrade from my previous NUC. It's a good compact desktop machine for writing documents, browsing the internet, watching videos, and compiling code. It is a bit of a niche product though, as it's not good for graphics-intensive activities like playing modern 3D games, and it's also not entirely mobile like a tablet or laptop. It is cheaper though, and I've had no problem sticking it in my luggage, flying it on a plane, and setting up a workstation at a relative's house.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This PC is flawless except for the following problems 1. Fan noise (at all times no matter how much load the PC is under) 2. Weak wifi
