Apple iPad Overview

  • 1Description

Apple updated their classic space gray 9.7" iPad with an Apple A9 chip, which also has a M9 motion coprocessor. This 64-bit chip delivers performance that makes apps feel fast and fluid. Explore rich learning apps, play graphically intensive games, or even use two apps at once with iOS 10's multitasking features.

The iPad features a 9.7" Retina Display that has a 2048 x 1536 resolution, resulting in 264 ppi — over 3.1 million pixels. The display also has multi-touch support.

At just one pound and 7.5mm thin, the iPad features an aluminum unibody construction that delivers a solid feel. There is also a front 1.2MP FaceTime HD camera and a rear 8MP camera that can record 1080p video.

With support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi, the iPad can reach data transfer speeds of up to 866 Mbps.

9.7" Retina Display
Within the 9.7" LED-backlit touchscreen, the 2048 x 1536 native resolution renders text and images at 264 pixels per inch and a total of over 3.1 million pixels. The display also features an oleophobic coating, which helps reduce the amount of fingerprint smudges.
8-Megapixel Rear Camera
The f/2.4 rear camera has an 8-megapixel sensor that captures images at a native resolution of 3264 x 2448 and 1080p HD video. The camera also features time-lapse video, exposure control, 120 fps slo-mo, a burst mode, a timer mode, and a high-resolution panorama mode.
FaceTime HD Camera
Put a face — or two — on every conversation. The 1.2-megapixel front-facing FaceTime HD camera can record 720p video and has an f/2.2 aperture that lets in more light. Its sensor and pixels help improve performance in low-light conditions, while dual microphones employ noise-reduction technology to help suppress background noise. In addition, when you switch cameras from front to back (or vice versa), the microphones switch too, so what your iPad sees is what it hears.
Touch ID
Use your unique fingerprint as a password. Touch ID lets you unlock your iPad instantly and secure private data in apps. You can also use it to make purchases with Apple Pay in apps and websites.
802.11ac Wi-Fi
Thanks to two 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz antennas and MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) technology, the iPad can reach download speeds of up to 866 Mbps with its 802.11ac connection. So now when you want to download a movie, share photos or documents with AirDrop, or just browse the web, your connection is even faster than before.
Durable & Portable
At just one pound and 7.5mm thin, the iPad is designed to go wherever you go. And it's as durable as it is portable, with an aluminum unibody construction that delivers a solid feel.
iOS 10
iOS 10 is Apple's secure mobile operating system. You can work and play using two apps at once, ask Siri to send a message for you, and automatically back up your files with iCloud, so you can access them anywhere. Included are a number of built-in apps that help you get more out of your device.
Work Across Devices
The iPad works seamlessly with your other Apple devices. Start an email on your iPhone and finish it on the iPad. Or, copy images, video, and text from your iPad, then paste to your nearby Mac. You can even use AirDrop to share files wirelessly and instantly between devices.

    Apple iPad Reviews

    9.7- iPad (2017, 128GB, Wi-Fi Only, Space Gray) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 646.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great First Impression I've owned many Apple products dating back to Apple //e, but this is my first experience with an iPad. What this iPad 5th Generation has in common with all previous Apples is that special feeling that you are handling very fine jewelry. The physical beauty of the item and its perfect heft are the first indications of the care that went into its design and manufacture. The setup was very easy and intuitive---in spite of the fact that the only written instruction (in the box) was a small piece of paper that identified the several buttons on the iPad. Once you know how to turn it on, the iPad leads you effortlessly through its setup. In very little time, you can be using the many included apps, browse online, and send email. During my first session, I was able to add most of my favorite bookmarks and contacts. Like all good things, you want to play more with it... tomorrow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product at a Very Good Price, Includes free shipping I've been a Microsoft PC person for many years but have had a few Apple products, including the original Mac and Lisa. I finally decided to bite the bullet and try the iPad. I love it. I use if for email, Facebook, news and to remotely control our Soundboard at church (the primary reason for this purchase). It won't replace my PC/Microsoft Surface but it is very nice. I got the version with 128 GB memory and that seems to be sufficient, since I also use OneDrive and other Cloud services. I also run Microsoft apps, so can use this for some work related tasks, as well. Mine is the Gold model, and it is very classy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Typical Apple made to break construction I had iPad 4s I lost because Apple doesn't let you set off find my iPad alarm from an Android phone. After I lost the 1st iPad 4 to theft I bought a used one because that one was unbreakable. But after that one was stolen I was forced to buy this thin, cheap iPad 2017 designed to break easily compared to the iPad 4. Bought a carrying case with shoulder strap but it falls out. That is how it got broken. How can they selll products that are mobile but slippery and under normal use falls to the floor or pavement and break and win a class action lawsuit? They hired the best attorneys their billions of non taxed profits could buy, that's how.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good reliable tablet I bought this as a replacement for my iPad Air. It works very well, battery seems to last a couple of days with moderate use, charges rapidly. I wish Apple would stop trying to squeeze every last dime from their customers and give us a better value. These days 32GB doesn't go very far, 64GB should be standard. Apple accessories like Lightning connector cables are expensive. An an extra $200 for an LTE cellular version? Sorry, I'll just WiFi and hotspots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great buy! Just upgraded from a Generation 2 iPad to this Generation 5 iPad. WOW!! What a difference. Being able to keep the same setup, layout and not have to learn a whole new system is always a plus when it comes to iPad and Apple in general. It is amazing how much faster the Gen 5 iPad is at processing emails, opening applications and streaming movies. Just great. I recommend to anyone who has an old iPad to upgrade to this one as soon as you can. What a difference. Additionally, fast shipping too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this device...almost has much as my iPhone I was probably the last person in the Apple universe to not have an iPad! I got 128GB because I have a lot of photos and wanted a device that would be a back up device for my phone. For streaming video to my AppleTV, the playback has been flawless, except for DirectTV. I still need to figure that out and just haven’t had the time. When I just want to watch a quick video or the news, the display is gorgeous! The order itself, came quickly even though there were backorder concerns and issues with UPS not having enough people to deliver things when promised. I was going to purchase a new MacBook but thanks to my iPad, I can put that on the back burner. Tig

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Got me thinking I've been a dedicated Android user, and basically think Apple's products cost twice what they're worth.? What got me here is an Asus 32GB Zenpad, which is the worst technology I've bought since dial up AOL.? This iPad has a beautiful screen, and works pretty flawlessly.? I'm also surprised how much better third party apps look on Apple than Android.? The downside is I really prefer the menus and app acquisition on Android.? Not sure this will ever get me over to an Android phone, but I'm happy with Apple as a tablet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first iPad, so far so good I don't have a previous iPad to compare this one to, but so far I'm enjoying having the larger screen than my iPhone to browse and read newspaper articles. I'm not putting the iPad through any tests, just day-to-day reading and browsing. So far no glitches or complaints.
