K&M 17680 Memphis 10 Guitar Stand (Black)

Unbeatable for this kind of guitar stand

I don't love the idea of hanging my instruments by their headstock--I know people do it all the time, and I've never had a problem with it, but somehow I just can't stop imagining the whole thing getting knocked over and the fork tines just sort of prying the headstock off. However, my #1/#2 basses right now are J-style instruments with asymmetric bodies--exactly the kind of offset instruments that fare poorly in A-Frame (ask me how I know) and also poorly the old-school multi-piece guitar stands that we've all left at every gig and rehearsal space our entire lives. But I'm a big fan of K&M's well-engineered products, so I thought I'd try this one. I still had w concerns. First support fork appeared to be made of plastic, and that just bugs me (irrationally, I know). Second, I worry about finish damage from the instrument rubbing on the protective foam leg coverings that have contact with the back of the guitar body. The plastic fork thingie seems to be, however, of one of those highly engineered super-strong varieties, so in person I have little concern about it bending or breaking---it's not covered in protective foam, so I don't know what it will do to the finish at the neck/headstock junction. I haven't had it long enough to get a feel for my 2nd concern, but I'm assuming that the less I take a guitar in and out of the stand, the less opportunities there will be for rubbing and friction. Hopefully the foam material is inert/stable and won't end up interacting with any instrument finishes. I haven't tried any others of this style (Hercules etc), but it seems like you can rarely go wrong with a K&M product, and the build quality is almost always a cut above most other products.
