Dedicated to the Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM lens, the ALC-SH142 Lens Hood helps to minimize flare by deflecting stray light from entering the lens. The hood also provides additional protection to the lens from accidental impacts, bumps, or scratching. It is offered here as a spare or replacement for the hood originally included with the lens.

ALC-SH142 Lens Hood is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ive had TWO fall apart after minimal use. Ill be copying this review to the lens reviews as well, so I will write it to cover both. The lens is tack sharp, but hunts a bit making it a bit slow for weddings. This is borderline acceptable for the speed and image quality of the lens. My main reason for writing this review is the lens hood. The original that cam with my $1,800 lens fell apart after 2 weddings. Ive never had anything break like that. With a few small bumps, the rubber portion separates from the plastic body and tears out the liner on the inside. The same thing happened with this replacement hood I bought. The design is awful & prone to breakage. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an alternative for now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved My Lens, Twice I am probably too clumsy to own the lens that this hood ships with but on two separate occasions I have dropped my camera and both times, because of my extraordinary luck, it has landed on the lens hood with no camera or lens damage. After the first drop the hood took a nasty scratch but was fine. The second drop, from about three feet, cracked the hood but spared everything else. I would much rather have a breakable but flexible lens hood that is relatively cheap to replace than an inflexible hood that carries shock to my not-cheap-to replace lens and camera.
