  • 1Description

Comprising the essential components needed to begin shooting, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G85 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 12-60mm Lens and Accessory Kit from B&H bundles the advanced MFT camera body and standard zoom G Vario 12-60mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. lens with a memory card and a shoulder bag to carry and protect your equipment.

  • Panasonic Lumix DMC-G85 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 12-60mm Lens

Designed for video and stills shooters alike, the Lumix DMC-G85 from Panasonic is a versatile Micro Four Thirds camera characterized by its quick performance, flexible photo capabilities, and UHD 4K video recording. Using a 16MP MOS sensor, this mirrorless camera has a sensitivity range from ISO 200-25600 to suit working in a variety of lighting conditions, and also affords quick shooting speeds up to 10 fps with single-shot autofocus, or 6 fps with continuous autofocus, as well as up to 40 fps when using an electronic shutter function and 30 fps at 8MP with 4K PHOTO Modes. Benefitting working in difficult lighting conditions, 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization can be used to dramatically reduce the appearance of camera shake, and this IS system pairs with select lens' image stabilization systems for Dual I.S.

Complementing the imaging attributes, the camera also incorporates both a 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder as well as a 3.0" 1.04m-dot touchscreen LCD, which has a free-angle design to better enable working from high and low angles. Built-in Wi-Fi is also integrated into the design, which facilitates wireless image transferring and remote camera control from linked smartphones or tablets. Additionally, the body construction is weather-sealed to guard against dust and moisture for working in inclement weather conditions.

Included with the camera body is the Lumix G Vario 12-60mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S., which is a standard zoom lens that provides a 24-120mm equivalent focal length range. Its optical design incorporates three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element to reduce both chromatic and spherical aberrations throughout the zoom range. POWER O.I.S. is also featured to minimize the appearance of camera shake, and works in conjunction with the camera's sensor-shift IS for more effective shake correction.

    16MP Live MOS Sensor
Using a 16MP Live MOS sensor, the G85 is capable of capturing clear, high-resolution stills as well as UHD 4K video. The sensor's design omits an optical low-pass filter in order to achieve a high degree of sharpness and resolution, and its design also affords a sensitivity range from ISO 200-25600 to suit working in a variety of lighting conditions. Additionally, fast shooting performance is also afforded, with the ability to shoot at up to 40 fps with an electronic shutter function, 30 fps at 8MP using the 4K PHOTO Modes, 10 fps with AF-S and an electronic shutter, or 9 fps using a mechanical shutter with AF-S.
    UHD 4K Video Recording
In addition to the versatile still shooting modes, the G85 also supports recording UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) video with either 30p or 24p frames rates at 100 Mbps. Full HD 1080p/60 is also supported at 28 Mbps in the MP4 format, along with HD recording and Full HD in AVCHD. A built-in stereo microphone can be used during recordings, and features an integrated wind-cut filter for cleaner audio quality when shooting outdoors, or an optional external mic can be used via the 3.5mm jack.
    4K PHOTO Modes
Utilizing the 4K video recording capabilities, a trio of still shooting modes are available for recording continuous 8MP stills at a 30 fps shooting rate:
    • 4K Burst: Just as with video recording, this mode will allow you to continuously record 8MP images at 30 fps for up to 29 min. 59 sec, making it ideal for instances where you need a fast frame rate in order to capture the best moment.
    • 4K Pre-Burst: This mode is ideal for times when you're unsure of the critical moment to press the shutter button and will record 8MP images at 30 fps one second prior to and one second after pressing the shutter button in order to give you 60 frames to choose from.
    • 4K Burst (S/S): This mode most closely follows the 4K video recording process, and allows you to playback your video, pause at the chosen moment, and use the shutter button to mark a chosen frame from the video and save it as a single 8MP frame.
    Dual Image Stabilization
Helping to achieve the utmost sharpness when photographing handheld, Dual I.S. combines the G85's 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization technology with lens-based image stabilization to compensate for a broader range of movement types to render sharper, clearer imagery. Dual I.S. requires the use of compatible Lumix lenses featuring O.I.S.
    Depth-From-Defocus AF Technology
For accelerated autofocus performance, DFD (Depth-From-Defocus) technology is employed to quickly calculate the distance to subjects and adjust the focusing position in order to suit working with continuous shooting rates up to 6 fps with continuous AF. This contrast-detection type focus method benefits both still and video recording modes, as well as subject tracking applications where subject color, size, and motion vectors are used to intelligently lock-onto the moving subjects and ensure precise focus. Additionally, supporting working in low-light conditions, a Starlight AF feature enables accurate AF performance down to -4 EV.

Benefitting manual focus operation, focus peaking is available that highlights bright edges of contrast with a colored outline for quickly recognizing your focus point, as well as Touch MF Assist for touch-to-focus operation.
    Body Design and Built-In Wi-Fi
    • An integrated 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder offers a bright, clear eye-level means for composing images, and features a 0.74x effective magnification.
    • A larger means for image composition and playback, the 3.0" 1.04m-dot rear LCD monitor has a free-angle design to support viewing from a variety of angles. It is also a touchscreen, which permits intuitive menu navigation and settings control.
    • The camera body features a durable weather-sealed construction that renders it both dust- and splash-proof for use in trying environmental conditions.
    • Ten programmable function buttons can be used to control a wide variety of settings and tools.
    • The included rechargeable lithium-ion battery is rated to provide approximately 330 shots per charge when working with the rear LCD, 320 shots with the EVF, or 800 shots with the Power Saver LVF mode.
    • A built-in pop-up flash is available to provide additional illumination when working in low-light conditions.
    • Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity allows for wireless image sharing and remote camera control from linked smartphones and tablets.
    Lumix G Vario 12-60mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. Lens
Included with the camera body is this versatile 24-120mm equivalent wide-to-tele zoom, which is well-suited to a variety of shooting applications. This POWER O.I.S. system pairs with the camera's sensor-shift IS system, using Dual I.S., for effective control of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. The lens also utilizes a trio of aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element to minimize spherical and chromatic aberrations for increased clarity and sharpness.
    Other Camera Features
    • A variety of bracketing modes can be used for shutter speed, aperture, and white balance settings. Focus bracketing is also possible, for up to 999 images with focus steps set in 5 levels, for focus stacking applications.
    • Creative Control modes allow you to apply a unique look to imagery in-camera, and include Expressive, Retro, Old Days, High Key, Low Key, Sepia, Monochrome, Dynamic Monochrome, Rough Monochrome, Silky Monochrome, Impressive Art, High Dynamic, Cross Process, Toy Effect, Toy Pop, Bleach Bypass, Miniature Effect, Soft Focus, Fantasy, Star Filter, One Point Color, and Sunshine.
    • Photo Styles can be used to impart a distinct quality into either stills or videos, and include Standard, Vivid, Natural, Monochrome, L. Monochrome, Scenery, Portrait, Custom, Cinelike D, Cinelike V.
    • A Silent Mode can be used to mute camera noises for more discreet shooting in sound-sensitive environments.

Panasonic DMC-G85MK reviews

Lumix DMC-G85 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 12-60mm Lens and Accessory Kit is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Many Improvements The G85 compared to the G1 & G5 is a larger more robust camera with better build quality and over 40 new or upgraded features. Many of these new features are complex and will require an extended learning curve with many visits to the advanced manual. The video button remains recessed and is difficult to locate by touch. On off for it would be an excellent feature to be able to add to the Quick menu. My grip still presses the Display button when it is not desired. Yours may not. Overall a step up with welcome improvements vs The G1 & G5. Well done Panasonic. Down load & read the advanced manual If you are considering it as your next camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Camera I am not technical enough to write a lengthy review, so this will be from the gut. This is a fantastic camera in a very good-value price range. This camera has so many features that there is an unavoidable learning curve to cover them all, even superficially. However, the auto function works so well that you can start taking super photos immediately, while you learn about all the other functions. Don't believe what some are saying about micro four thirds. The G85 is compact and feels great in the hand. It takes incredible pictures and and wants for nothing in terms of features. I absolutely recommend this camera without hesitation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great G85, but don't get excited about the free case The Rugged case offered as a giveaway is too small for this G85/12-60 kit lens, in any orientation. I don't routinely take my lens off to put camera back in the case, so this case is useless for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great overall camera only missing a few things A lot can be said about micro four thirds camera but being terrible isn't one of them! First off, there's a lot of missleading info when it comes to this camera. People say it isn't good in low light. That's a lie because most cameras even one's sporting a full sized sensor don't do well in low light. 2nd misleading comment is the auto-focus. Listen guys the auto-focus is fine. Even when compared to the Sony Alpha series or Canon. I did a presentation video showing item close to the camera with minimal lighting. The camera performed well. Is it on par with Canon's dual pixel AF? Not really but it's acceptable for vlogging. The lack of 120fps in 1080p sucks. For that, you will have to upgrade to the GH5 for $1000 more or get the FZ2500. I would of bought the FZ2500 if it didn't have a fixed lens. Taking picture are OK I'm not really a photo buff in the first place. However, this camera does a decent job at 16mp with little to no aliasing. The other issue I have is the location of the mic input. It blocks the screen when you flip it out. Kind of annoying seeing the G7 and GH5 does have that problem.. Overall very happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected! After reading the reviews and watching countless YouTube videos about this camera, I decided to dive in and I do NOT regret that decision at all. I haven't had any issues with focusing and the camera's performance for still photos is even better than I expected. At first, I was also debating getting several other lenses, but the kit lens is fantastic and covers a great range, so it will most likely serve as my go to lens for most shooting scenarios.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from the best body camera under $500 the lense only worth $497 so this camera is ahead of its time when it came out 2016 but I bought it 2018 and I tell you Im so happy with this camera and I am newie to the camera thing,,, easy to get used to it, if you know how to operate smart phone. 4k videos with IBIS and weather sealing, what else overall 10/10 for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera! Bought thiscamera as an alternative to GH5/GH4. It is fantastic, image quality, easy to use, great set of options.
Date published: 2018-01-24
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best 4K Camera For Price I bought this camera for the 4K video capabilities and was extremely impressed. I had been debating between a more expensive DSLR or the Lumix G85 - and I am so glad I went with the G85. First - the higher priced DSLR's usually record in 1080 instead of 4K, so the image quality (for video) is better. Second - the G85 features exceptional image stabilization which is crucial for professional quality handheld shots. Third - the G85 also features weather-proofing which keeps me at ease when shooting outside. I'd recommend buying a faster lens with an aperture of F/2 or larger to achieve the same DOF as a full frame DSLR. With the smaller image sensor, you'll need a wider aperture to achieve the same look. However, there are several affordable lenses on the market that will achieve this. ThePanasonic 25mm f/1.7 is the most affordable, but theMitakon 25mm f/0.95 can create truly stunning bokeh for a 4/3 camera. I also purchased theRokinon 85mm T1.5 Cine for extreme close-ups or distant subjects. All of these lenses, paired with the Lumix G85 offer exceptional bokeh that will instantly give your shoot a professional look. Just make sure to use the focus assist feature on the G85 with those wide apertures!
