Dedicated to the Sony Alpha a9, a7 III, and a7R III mirrorless cameras, the VG-C3EM Vertical Grip offers both extended battery and a more comfortable grip when shooting in the vertical orientation. The grip accepts two NP-FZ100 batteries to effectively double the battery life for long shooting sessions, and the batteries can be charged in the grip while attached to the camera via the body's USB port. The grip's design maintains the same layout as the camera body itself, and includes a secondary shutter button and Multi Selector for intuitive use. Also, the grip is built from magnesium alloy and is dust- and moisture-resistant to match the weather sealing of the camera itself.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Serves its purpose, but could be better When you hold the camera up you can see light coming through between the body and the grip. For the price, it could fit better. I don't like the location of the shutter release. When I grip the camera the bottom of my hand presses the shutter release on the grip. I never had that happen with a grip before. Sony obviously knows it a problem so they have a shutter lock switch on the grip, but I find this to be a poor fix. When changing orientation while shooting I have to stop and unlock the shutter release and you shouldn't have to do that on a camera and grip at this price point. As much as I love the technology and performance of the A9, the build quality and ergonomics of the camera and grip are still not on the same level as many lower priced options.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome grip for the a9 = I bought this to give more battery life and handle on my Sony Alpha a9 for portraits. This thing feels like quality grip. It's very useful and the battery tray is very easy to open & close (not on accident) to make swaps. I really enjoy the fact that it is not too heavy, even with both batteries, and provides a nice balance when using heavier/longer lenses. I switched over recently from Canon and I was worried that I would be thrown off ergonomically by the aesthetics, but the Sony Alpha a9 feels very much like a DSLR and this grip tops it off for me! The a9 battery already lasts very long (especially compared to the Sony NP-FW50 batteries), so with this grip, I'm always confident about having enough battery on long shoots. =

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seamless operation and better grip for large lenses. I purchased Sony's vertical grip mainly to improve my grip on the smallish a9 camera body, particularly when used with Canon's super telephoto lenses. In that application, it does improve the grip, giving the pinky a chance to participate in supporting the big lenses, when I'm hand holding them. I subsequently ordered Sony's FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS lens, which is capable of 20-frames per second, when mounted on the a9. I thought that I'd be more economical with my shots, but I find it hard to resist action that only lasts a second, but translates into 20+ shots. Also, I shoot birds and wildlife, so I keep the camera awake, so that I don't miss a shot during the second+ that it takes for the a9 to wake up. I can go through a battery in around 3-hours. It's nice to have the second battery in the camera, so that the switch to the new battery is seamless. I only not that there was a battery switch, after the fact.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Improves handling with Big Lenses, Could be Smarter, Slimmer I had this for my A7R2 and automatically got one for my A7R3 - and it certainly improves handling with the bigger lenses - however the battery is much less of a concern now with the new battery. The grip does add considersble bulk to the camera, so I wonder if it could have been more compact. I also wish it came with the intervalometer and other features we see in non-oem products. I also have a RRS base plate which also improves handing and tripod mounting - and I'm still on the fence as to which should stay on the camera all the time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Accessory I waited to buy this grip because I wasn't sure I'd want or need it. I come from a D3S, which has the 2nd shutter for vertical shooting. This grip really helps for those of us with large hands. Without it, my pinky and ring finger weren't helping to stablize the camera and the grip helps me more confidently hold it. I love the 2nd shutter with the C1/C2 buttons. I never had issues with shooting on 1 battery, but having the redundancy in camera of 2 batteries and 2 cards is awesome. I know it will last an intense full day of shooting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Perfect Accessory Holding my a9 with the grip is so comfortable. I love being able to shoot in portrait orientation and have convenient, comfortable buttons. I no longer have to struggle to press custom buttons. I previously had a grip for a a7ii camera, and this new grip has a new design for removing the batteries. The new design with a flip out latch, is so easy to open. The grip will not be coming off my camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have If you're going to shoot with the Alpha series cameras and use any of the G master lenses this is a must have in my opinion. The other nice feature is that you can use two batteries for extended shooting

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ergonomic Joy First off - I ordered this on Saturday and received it on Tuesday... I'm on the other side of the world so WOW B&H! This grip is everything I wanted to add more strength to the camera. The double battery life and portrait functions are outstanding, not quite the same build quality as the a7riii but the function and grip is beyond perfect. Absolutely essential purchase.
