Feiyu WG2 overview

  • 1Description

The Feiyu WG2 is a 3-axis gimbal stabilizer without the standard handle but is rather a wearable and mountable model. It directly supports the GoPro HERO6 Black and HERO5 Black action cameras, as well as a variety of other cameras of similar shape and size including the HERO4/HERO3+/HERO3 without a BacPac LCD, the YI Technology 4K/4K+, and select SJCAM and AEE models. It also supports the GoPro HERO Session via an included adapter. A knob with a sliding arm and leveling system on the mounting platform allows you to quickly balance whatever camera you use.

The WG2 weighs only 0.6 lb without a camera and can be used mounted/worn on a helmet, chest support, handlebars, selfie stick, desktop tripod, and other supports. Featuring a 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole on the bottom and one on the rear, it can flexibly be attached in standard, vertical, and inverted orientation.

The gimbal is built with three motors and an algorithm that's especially optimized for wearable operation. The algorithm, which calculates the rotation angle, is designed with improved anti-jamming capability for high-frequency jitter and high-speed motion scenarios.

The gimbal offers unlimited 360° pan rotation, unlimited 360° tilt rotation, and 70° roll-angle rotation. One of the selectable modes of operation is an auto-rotation mode that allows you to assign a pre-set travel route with start and end points and a constant speed. This mode can be used for automated standard video capture as well as effective time-lapse photography.

A single button on the front turns the gimbal on and off and toggles between modes. An LED on the front confirms the selected mode and indicates battery status. The WG2 operates on a built-in 1500mAh battery that runs for approximately 2.5 hours and is rechargeable in about 2 hours.

The WG2 also comes with a free-to-download Feiyu ON app (iOS/Android) that allows for remote control operation of the gimbal, adjusting the settings, and firmware updates. An optional Feiyu remote control (model # WGWR) is also supported.

The gimbal is also IP67 waterproof to depths of up to 3 ft for approximately 10 minutes, and 1.5 ft thereafter. This is not a sufficient-enough depth for most underwater activities, but it does ensure safe, splashproof operation on rainy days, wet adventures, and the like.

The WG2 folds and packs away compact into a supplied splashproof carrying case.

    Feiyu WG2 reviews

    WG2 Wearable/Mountable Gimbal for GoPro HERO6, HERO5, HERO Session & More is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great concept, but rushed to market bit too soon? I have tried two of these units (and this is a positive for B&H who has worked with me to effect timely & hassle-free returns) -- the first WG2 may have worked but the mechanical ring to lock the camera position (counterbalance) for my Hero5 was jammed and could not be moved. I had to return the unit because I couldn't secure the camera. The 2nd unit came and worked as advertised, almost. The auto-pan feature would not work. I read all I could find off the net and retried the AUTO setup several times (even tried combinations - the instructions are poorly written). Additionally, the RF remote control wouldn't connect to this unit, so this return had both the WG2 and remote going back. The gimbal is compact and what features did operate properly did so nicely. I like that that mounting side is in opposition to the Hero5's mike port (which is a problem for other wearable gimbals). What I have to question is when you use the remote, it requires a special antenna/chip into the micro-USB, meaning the waterproof door seal is open -- so I am not sure this units qualifies as waterproof when the remote is used (why Feiyu didn't employ use of the standard bluetooth protocol is a question - the gimbal worked great with the iPHONE connected). The unit has a lot of promise given eh size, versatility, and promised features -- but having been through 2 systems in 2 weeks seems excessive and smells of using buyers as a beta test function. I really have need for a small remote-controlled (not iPHONE) gimbal being a kayakers and skier -- guess I have to decide, try 3 times (an you're out?) or wait until a more solid (aka reliable, robust) design/manufacturer appears!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feiyu WG2 Was a little tricky to get to work but over all a great product. Definitely recommend to anyone that wants awesome stable footage...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again Very solidly built and intuitively programmed. Balances my Hero5 perfectly. Would have been nice if it had a replaceable battery rather than integrated, but the battery life is pretty good.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ever tried to buy something you know you shouldn't? The WG2 reads like a plan that came to fruition -- and it was YOUR plan! I've been waiting for a year for a wearable, that's waterproof (more or less), has auto-panning, and that supports the HERO5 GoPro without add-on brackets and such (and allows for a point not next to the mic). We do a lot of sports and some involve (many) involve water! SO... I preordered the WG2 & its remote. When they came I went through the Hero5 mounting and alas, the locking ring wouldn't budge... no way to hold the Hero5. I tried the remote, that too didn't work -- back went the WG2 and I ordered a 2nd unit (hoping get remote might work I didn't return it, yet). The 2nd unit came and the mechanics worked fine. And, ALMOST all the features work except that one I was really hoping for, the auto-pan. The WG2 simply would not pan (it saw both start & stop positions but only return to start to hang there indefinitely). And, of course, the remote didn't work with this unit either (it would never connect). Plus I am betting the receiver antenna needed compromised the waterproof integrity -- wasn't a well-engineered system. Back goes both. I will state that B&H's customer service is why I go through them for all of my camera equipment over the years -- and this time, it was well needed. So here I am thinking about a 3rd unit -- but do I dare, or do I continue to be a beta test site? I simply cannot give this much more than 2 stars. It is a product rushed to market by leaving some lot?) of QA out. #sad And note, the remote has been discontinued by B&H. There is another Feiyu remote out there -- maybe THIS is the one to go for, but do I try a 3rd shot at the WG2? Or wait for others to come to market.... looks like I am waiting.
