Designed for electric guitarists who want to switch between two amplifiers on stage, the Radial Engineering Twin-City is a stompbox pedal with one footswitch that allows you to choose between two output paths, and another that lets you play through both amps at the same time. This ABY switcher also features a polarity switch on the B channel, so if one amplifier is out of phase with the other, tightening the signal becomes as easy as flipping this toggle. Additionally, a ground-lift switch fights against hum and buzz often caused by ground loops.
The pedal utilizes a buffered circuit path, which in other cases might very well sound too clean; however, on the rear of the Twin-City, you’ll find a potentiometer that adjusts a proprietary load-correction circuit, effectively emulating the impedance of your amplifier, and obviating any tonal issues introduced by the buffered circuit path.
The Twin-City uses 14-gauge steel in its construction, which contributes to its reliability, as does the unit’s shielding and military-spec circuit board. These provide protection against stray magnetic fields, allowing the controls and switches to remain free from interference. In addition to using this pedal to switch between amplifiers, you can also use it to switch between channels on an amplifier with dedicated/separated channel inputs. The pedal can also work with tuners. Simply route signal to the tuner with one of the paths, depress the Toggle footswitch, and you'll enter silent tuning mode. Depress the other footswitch, and your tuner will see signal at all times.
