VisibleDust Quasar R Overview

Illuminate and locate dust and other particles on the heart of your camera with the Quasar R 5x Sensor Loupe Magnifier from VisibleDust. Its extra-low dispersion (ED) glass element features an MgF2 fluorine coating, which provides a high level of clarity while minimizing chromatic aberrations.

The loupe offers 5x magnification power and 14 LEDs, including 7 white diodes and 7 red ones with Dark Adaptation Technology. The wavelength of these crimson LEDs allows for better viewing in dark environments once your pupils have dilated and your eyes have adjusted, thus allowing for better visibility of the spots and debris on your image sensor. Additionally, VisibleDust uses the term Bright Vue technology to describe the benefit provided by the combination of the brightness of the LEDs and their vari-angled orientation in the loupe. This setup is designed to create a 3D image of your sensor as you peer through the lens, helping you see even the smallest spots clearly.

Red lights feature Dark Adaptation Technology, meaning their wavelength increases your visual acuity in dark environments, thus improving visibility of spots and debris on the image sensor. By first turning out the lights in the room for a minute, and then switching on the red LEDs and looking through the loupe, you allow your pupils to adjust to the dark. Then, as you inspect the sensor, your pupils will remain dilated to let more light in. Red lights help preserve your night vision, and may make it easier to see certain types of particles
Bright Vue technology is a term used to describe the benefit provided by the LEDs' vari-angled orientation, which creates a three-dimensional image of your sensor as you look through the loupe--helping you see even the smallest spots clearly
67mm metal ring accepts optional filters, close-up lenses, extension tubes, and hoods to enhance visibility even further
Lights are powered by 2 supplied CR2032 lithium batteries
Foam-filled hard case is included to store and protect the loupe when it's not in use

VisibleDust Quasar R Reviews

Simplifies Sensor Cleaning

I own two older Quasar models that don't have the red lighting, the rubberized cases get sticky over time. The new one I bought has a similar case. The residue gets on your fingers, and you have to clean them. The unit itself works great for examining your camera sensor and saves a lot of time because you don't have to take a picture, load it on to your PC and then if there is still dust, take another picture, by taking your lens on and off the camera. The white light looks great and revealed a clean sensor, when using the red light in a darkened environment I saw a particle of dust and a little of cleaning fluid residue I didn't see with the white light. It works well. Good luck with it if you buy one. The batteries can be a little finicky to add and remove but that's it.

I use it on a Sony A7R3 and a Nikon D7100. Great little loupe!! Especially, when I'm in the middle of shooting an Indy Car weekend and change lenses a bit.

will it work on/for mirrorless camera?
Asked by: David
I have not tried and don't know for sure, but I don't see why not. On SLRS the mirror has to be up to provide access to the sensor, anyway. The loupe will enlarge the image of anything to which you apply it at the correct distance.
