Magewell 32050 Overview

The Magewell USB Capture SDI Plus is a one-channel 2K capture device that interfaces with your computer via USB 3.0. It features loop-through BNC input/output that allows you to see your video on a downstream device, while you are capturing it into your computer. It also has a line-in audio input, for capturing audio directly, without picture, or you can de-embed the audio from the SDI stream.

We wanted to record 3 of these from a single USB cable, but no combination of USB hubs or Thunderbolt docks would let us do that. A single stream worked well after adjusting the settings with their software, at least. Only one Thunderbolt hub could even do two simultaneously, but we lost some frames. USB is just not the way to go for pro video.

Is there a USB-C version of this device, for using with an M1 Macbook Pro? Or do people just use a USB-3 to USB-C adapter?

Can I livestream in the field from a Sony FX6 ...

Can I livestream in the field from a Sony FX6 SDI-out to the Magewell to my Macbook wifi, straight to YouTube? Any caveats?

The Magewell USB Capture SDI Plus, One-Channel 2K Capture Device would only be able to accept up to a 2K SDI signal. You would need to make sure that your Sony FX6 Full-Frame Cinema Camera is outputting a compatible resolution in order to be accepted by the capture device. The device also needs to be connected directly to the MacBook via USB and your MacBook would need to be connected to the internet in order to stream to YouTube.

no this will NOT work with USB 2.0 computers, USB 2.0 does not have the bandwidth to support the Video signals.

Does this device get overheat after 4 hours? I can't see any vent system

We are not aware of any overheating issues. This can even operate between 32 to 122°F. There are no vents, but the heat sync within the unit helps.
