MrStarGuy 58mm Thread-in White-Light Solar Filter
Key Features
  • Designed for Solar Photography
  • 58mm Lens Threads
  • Neutral-White Color without Tinting
  • Tear-Resistant Solar-Viewing Film
Photograph sunspots, surface granulation, eclipses and planetary transits with your telephoto lens and the StarGuy 58mm Thread-in White-Light Solar Filter. These filters display the sun in a neutral white color without the red or blue tinting common in many glass and film filters. Made of a tear-resistant solar-viewing film, it is coated on both sides to eliminate the effects of pinholes while the intentional wrinkles improve image contrast and will not affect image quality or safety. The filter ring is made of a durable and lightweight aluminum alloy coated with a reflection-limiting anodized finish. This version of the solar filter has threads that allow it to thread onto the front of 58mm lenses. For the safety of your eyes and equipment, never look or point the camera directly at the sun through a lens without proper solar filters as permanent damage to the gear and your eyes will occur.

I was able to successfully photograph all phases of the recent total eclipse with this filter. (You remove it for totality.) I like that it looks black with white and not orange.

Artifacts form the foil

I screwed the filter onto the stock 18-55mm lens, and pointed it to the sun. The filtering was adequate, however the foil is creating a dance/ghost artifact on the image. Canon EOS Rebel T7i f/56 1/4000 ISO 25600 The issue is VERY noticeable when recording video, as the wind is causing the foil to flex. However I cannot upload video for review. I also show the issue with the 62mm version using the Tamron 70-300mm lens.
