Epiphan Webcaster X2 overview

  • 1Description

Expanding the streaming abilities of the previous generation X1 boxes, the Epiphan Webcaster X2 can broadcast to either YouTube Live or Facebook Live. Plug in your camera, switcher, or other HD video source via HDMI, connect to a local area network via Wi-Fi or hardwired Ethernet, and set up your stream by pairing the device to your relevant streaming accounts. The front display shows streaming status and pairing codes for setup. For additional tweaking, plug the HDMI output into a monitor and connect a separately available mouse or keyboard to the onboard USB ports. To keep things easy, the Webcaster X2 will automatically configure the H.264 encoding bit-rate for optimal performance based on the streaming platform and output resolution.

Live Monitoring
Monitor your live video and see viewer comments and reactions in real time. Simply connect a display to the Webcaster X2's HDMI out port.
Stream to Facebook Live or YouTube Live
Webcaster X2 streams your live video to your choice of Facebook Live or YouTube Live. Switching between them is simple, and Webcaster X2 remembers all your settings for both YouTube and Facebook Live.

    Epiphan Webcaster X2 reviews

Webcaster X2 is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Streamed Church Service after Easy Setup My video production team used the Epiphan Webcaster this morning to live stream a church service to Facebook. Setup was very easy, with a Canon camera, wired mouse, and 23-inch monitor plugged in. You set everything up and monitor the stream by clicking the mouse and navigating through menus. The unit displays a keyboard on the lower half of the screen for you to put in passwords, stream titles, etc. using a mouse. The Webcaster also remembers passwords and settings, so you don't have to re-enter the settings to reconnect to wifi and begin another stream. This is a big upgrade from streaming with cell phones, and it's a very cost-effective solution.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great, but you should know this before you buy. On the positive side, it could not be easier to get your stream live. Out of the box to live on Youtube within 15 minutes. Very simple interface, and video quality was respectable for the supported upload speeds. Once setup, you literally can be online with a single button push. Unfortunately for me, it does not support my Canon C100, as the video output is 1080i. The same was true for a Sony HXR-NX5U that I tried. My little G7 however worked fine. Apparently since the HDMI output is 1080P.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works as advertised We needed a quick, easy way to publish/archive video of teaching events on YouTube. After multiple failures with an iPad, we purchased the Webcaster X2. Realized we needed usb mouse and keyboard and HDMI capable monitor to configure the device. Once I ran those down, It took a couple of days of testing off and on to tweak everything to our liking, but now that everything is set up, it truly does just take the push of a button to stream. It supports 720/1080P (not i) input. Make sure your camera generates the necessary output format through HDMI and you won't be disappointed, especially for the price. Once we have been using this successfully for a few weeks, we will likely purchase a second one for another location in the venue to avoid constantly moving it around with a camera.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I’m loving it. I’m using it in our small house of worship for Facebook live streaming of our services and events. I use three Panasonic ag-ac160s, a Roland hd-1sdi and the webmaster and it makes us look great. We even use it for our choir rehearsals to stream rehearsals to a small fb group of members can’t make it. No hiccups yet. It’s saving us a bundle not having to subscribe to a streaming service while giving our ministry a bigger look and access to a larger audience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Unit. Know the limitations! I produce a daily Facebook Live show and we had been using the Blackmagic Design Web Presenter, which relies on a usb connection to a computer to run the stream. While it worked wonderfully, I wanted to simplify the process. I picked this unit up and so far it's been excellent. I think it's important to point out that there are limitations to it and if you don't go in knowing what they are, you may be surprised. This is specifically for Facebook or Youtube. If you just want to create a stream to send to another service, this probably isn't the unit for you. Also, I imagine this was created for less technical people, so the options for stream settings are limited and simplistic. If you need something highly customizable, again, look elsewhere. That said, this does a live stream to Facebook or Youtube perfectly and the display when connected to a monitor is amazing. Live comments come in and show on the screen and you can see how many are watching at any given time...love that! My only negatives are small. I wish you the display included a clock so you could see what time it was or a countdown feature to give you a sense of when to wrap the show up. I also REALLY wish this unit could send a stream to Facebook's preview mode so you could input Title/Description from a computer and go live by clicking in the browser. This would offer much greater flexibility with tagging, etc. in Title's and Descriptions and would also allow you to remotely control when it goes live, etc. The only way I see to do this is with a keyboard/mouse connected to the unit and while simple, it's much more limiting. Overall, it does exactly what it claims to do and does it well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Value for Money! My department was looking for an affordable unit to facilitate streaming of our events and thats how I came across the WebcastserX2. Of all the gear I had looked at, this had the least number of constraints and negative reviews more sowas the most affordable I could have gotten. Please note that the Webcaster X2 takes progressive footage only and not interlaced. Pros: -Easy to setup -Portable. You can buy a power-bank and you can move around with. -Fits anywhere because of less footprint -Fluid streaming no dropouts even with little bandwidth -With webcaster x2, it's not a must to have a monitor, you can pre-configure your destination, title and description from the office or home and just take it with you it will stream with the set title and description to your destination page with a tap of the power button if you are doing portable. -Great price point! Cons: -No support for Analog Audio Input. -No support for overlay graphics These two are really CRUCIAL and I feel they are a challenge. I wish Epiphan would work something up to allow Audio input via the AV port and some basic graphics to it maybe just uploading via the memory card so you overlay once. Note: I streamed with graphics overlay from OBS studio by using Blackmagic Mini Recorder to input HDMI/SDI signals then overlay graphics on OBS studio then output via thunderbolt to HDMI. I used the Fullscreen Projector feature on OBS studio. Worked great only that I had the OBS studio menu bar appearing on the stream! Check out my streams at http://www.facebook.com/anu.ac.ke we use it for worship chapels other events. 720p with PMW-300 Well I hope this review helps you make your decision!
