Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock reviews

ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock (US) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well with unsupported Yoga 720 15 It's hard to tell what docks work with this Yoga 720 15, as Lenovo has no official documentation that says how many external displays the Thunderbolt 3 port supports, and it definitely only has 2x lanes (20gbps). However, using this dock, I can daisy-chain 2 QHD@60Hz monitors from one DP port, or just use both DP ports on the dock and avoid daisy-chaining altogether. I was pleasantly surprised to find this out. Maybe you could do dual UHD/4K screens or four QHD displays via daisy-chaining even with the Yoga 720, but I'm not sure. All I know is it works great for what I needed and solved the problem with docks and the Yoga 720 15.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worked great - For a little while The ThunderBolt dock worked great for about a month with my ThinkPad X1 Yoga (2nd Gen), providing a convenient one cable solution for my home office setup with dual 27" monitors. Unfortunately, after the latest firmware and Windows 10 update (Fall Creators Update) it stopped working. I don't know whether it was the firmware or Windows update that caused the problem. The laptop can no longer connect to the dock and the only thing that still works is the power button on the dock. Other folks have posted the same issue on the Lenovo support forum, so I'm not the only one having that problem. Lenovo support has apparently not been able to fix the problem. For now, the dock is just an expensive paper weight. I still have some hope that Lenovo can figure out the cause of the problem and address it. We'll see...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product with a couple of quirks I bought this dock with my new Thinkpad x1 carbon 5th gen. I have it hooked up to an Ethernet connection, two monitors, a keyboard, mouse, and a backup hard drive in my office at work. Being able to attach 1 lightning cable to the laptop and have all of these peripherals connected is great. One thing that was strange to me was that the powered lightning receiver is on what I consider the back side with the rest of the peripheral inputs. I tried using the front lightning input and was confused when it wasn't supplying power to my laptop. Other than that, this product is great. Being able to have 1 computer that I can use at home and at work optimizes my work efficiency. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Necessary accessory I bought this to use my large monitor with my XI ultrabook as well as a number of old peripherals that are not wireless. It works well for this purpose. The only negative I have is that you can not get enough power through the thunderbolt connection to power the computer and have to use the charger that came with the unit. This is the first Lenovo docking station that I have purchased that requires this. Lenovo need to provide a power outlet on the docking station and a cable to connect to the computer. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great yet a little disappointed. It definitely works as advertised but a little disappointing. I wish there were more USB connections on the back, instead of taking up space providing a VGA output. Seriously, if someone is using a dock focused on Thunderbolt 3 I would think (and hope) that your peripherals are not stuck in the 90s!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money if you have a 2016 15 MBP I've now tried 3 different docking solutions with my 2016 15 MacBook Pro and none of them really work right. It's impossible for me to assign blame to Apple vs the individual manufacturer, but from the perspective of a buyer, the answer's the same: don't waste your money. When I got this one, it worked fine with one HDMI monitor, gigabit ethernet, and a USB hub. After a couple months, it now displays two distinct problems. 1) the HDMI monitor frequently gets into flicker loops where it goes black on and off again every 5-10 seconds. Doesn't happen in any other configuration (the monitor itself isn't going bad). 2) after going to sleep with the docking station connection, about 50% of the time now the laptop hangs and can never be awakened without a forced shutdown and full reboot. The worst part is that when I get back to my sleeping MacBook after multiple hours, the closed lid is noticeably warm. So, not only is it not awakening much of the time at all, it's burning power while it sleeps. Who knows what accelerated wear and tear on the laptop results. Very disappointed here. I've also tried the Dell DA200 ethernet/VGA/HDMI USB-c adapter, and the OWC 10 port USB-C dock. Both with (different) bad limitations. Seems like an uphill battle to use a MBP as a serious desktop computing solution.
