VariZoom VZ-PG Overview

The VariZoom VZPGC20 20-Pin Zoom Control is a pistol-grip zoom controller built specifically for use with the Canon CN-E 18-80mm and CN-E 70-200mm compact-servo cine zoom lenses. It provides precise zoom speed control using a combination of a speed-control dial to set the maximum speed, and a pressure-sensitive rocker to feather your zoom.

Made from aluminum, the zoom features a record/pause button as well as a one-shot autofocus button. The pistol-grip design features an ergonomic curve and a foam grip for comfort, and is designed with a quick release clamp that allows you mount it for either left- or right-handed operation.

Combination of pressure-sensitive zoom rocker and speed dial provides precise dual-variable zoom control
Speed dial acts as a limiter for maximum speed or a ramping device
Red record/pause button
One-shot autofocus button for quick focus adjustment

Very cost effective product for a Fujinon Lens

I wish the title had a description of what brand it works with- I almost missed this. Our fujinon zoom controller stopped working after about 6 years. Fuji repair services was nearly impossible to contact and the $1000 Fujinon unit was backordered everywhere. Luckily I came across this. Pros: Half the price, easier to fit on a pan handle than the original, can do super slow zooms compared to the original, speed knob is in a very convenient place. Cons: Cheaper construction (still seems solid though). I have had cheaper varizoom units last only a year so im a little nervous. However, this type of controller seems like it wouldnt break as easy. The zoom rocker doesnt have much travel so pressure sensitive controls are not as easy. The speed control knob basically disables the zoom during the first 1/8th or so of a rotation... so you kinda gotta play around with it to find the slowest speed setting. Id prefer rubber handle over a foam handle. Overall, this thing has surprised me. Half the price of the fuji controller. a couple quirks but just practice with it and youre good. If it lasts 3 years- I got my moneys worth.

Ive got the 12 pin version and am using it on a Fujinon Cabrio 20-120 PL lens. This unit is hundreds of dollars less than the Fujinon equivalent and it works great.

It performs as expected. I wish there was a little more response at the slow speed end. Also I wish the rosette on the grip was compatible with a standard "arri" size rosette that is available on most new cameras today.

Love this zoom control. Don't think twice to buy this product. The only negative part is that you can't control the focus as well. Other than that it's a really good product.

The VariZoom VZPGC Deluxe Zoom Controller is designed specifically for the Canon CN-E 18-80mm & 70-200mm Lenses and Cano's professional camcorders so, yes, the red button can be used for start/stop record.

Will this work with a Panasonic HC-X1000?

This controller is for Sony and Canon LANC compatible cameras. It will not work with the HC-X1000, however we do have some Panasonic compatible controllers that will work. B&H # VAVZPROPZFI is the Panasonic version of this controller and is a good fit for the HC-X1000.
