Built for everyday tasks, the 15.6" Inspiron 15 5000 Series Notebook from Dell is ideal for users looking to browse the Internet, create and edit documents, and stream TV shows or movies. Specs-wise, it's powered by a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i3-7100U dual-core processor, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, and integrated Intel HD graphics. For storage, it's equipped with a 1TB hard drive. Should you need more room, you can attach external storage solutions using its USB ports or its SD media card reader.

Its 15.6" display has a 1366 x 768 resolution to provide you with crisp and clear HD content. You can also use its HDMI port to connect an additional display for enhanced multitasking and larger viewing. Connect to the Internet via 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi or the Ethernet jack for a more stable and reliable wired connection. Other integrated features include Bluetooth connectivity, a SuperMulti DVD drive, a webcam, speakers, microphones, and a 3.5 mm mic and headphone combo jack. The operating system installed is Windows 10 Home (64-bit).

Windows 10 Home

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana, can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the Internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information-gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

    15.6" Inspiron 15 5000 Series Notebook is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 57.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent Affordable Student Laptop Bought this for DVD based schoolwork and it fits the bill. Performance is pretty reasonable for this price point with the i3/8Gigs - once you get past the OS load which is only moderately painful (as expected with the HDD), apps open pretty quickly. Minecraft is smooth with video options dialed back a bit. Speakers produce more than enough volume to watch videos. Battery life seems good. No frills to speak of. Minor complaint is trim surrounding keyboard is slightly raised and somewhat sharp making it uncomfortable if you rest wrists in the wrong place. B&H delivered quick as promised, Good Stuff.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great PC for High Schooler My son needed a new laptop for his charter school. We didn't want to get him a typical Chrome book like most schools give their student body, so we opted for this Dell. Great PC, fast for the i3 processor. It will be perfect for him to get him through high school.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, not great. Mouse pad and mouse buttons are way too sensitive. Awkward to use. I will be getting an external mouse. Screen contrast is less than stellar. The adjustments I've tried haven't helped. Maybe I missed something. Other than that, no complaints. Keyboard is a good size (not too small). I have no regrets about my purchase - a reasonable machine for the money. But I'm not crazy about it. Wouldn't quite recommend because there are probably several machines at that price that are as good or better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed Wanted a very basic home computer. Was expecting this to be at least as fast and easy to use as my ten year old (Asus) netbook. It isn't. It was difficult and confusing to set up and it has slow and undependable internet access. (The problem isn't with my internet connection because my old computer still works just fine.) I can't believe this was really the basic home computer that the B&H expert recommended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stopped working after 4 months I wouldn't recommend this cheap laptop. Mine turned out expensive. First, after turning it on for a first time, it needed about 3 hours to install updates. This has never happened to any of the devices I've ever purchased, and I never purchase expensive or high-end devices. Second, it has been unusually slow for a brand new computer. It would usually take more than 5 minutes to restart. Third, it just stopped turning on at some point. I assume, I've received a defective device. It was sent back for repair under the warranty.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't know they make them this S-L-O-W Bought this simply for e-mail & Facebook, but it's really not adequate even for that. I've not touched a computer this slow in decades. Apart from lacking an indicator for hard disk activity, I was pleased with the physical unit and would consider upgrading a component if I knew what would fix it. But I'm not willing to experiment and turning a sow's ear into an expensive sow's ear.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy. Returned once since it wouldnt charge.....1 problem fixed but an immediate other problem now: the USB doesnt work. Waste of money. Not happy but cant return. Save yourself the trouble.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Spotty performance This was a disappointing unit. The track pad is not very responsive and the laptop is slower than expected. Occasionally freezes for 20-30 seconds.
