  • 1Description

Add the speed and storage capabilities of 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 and RAID to your Windows or Mac system using the RocketStor 6114V 4-Bay USB 3.1 RAID Enclosure from HighPoint. Designed with scalability and flexibility in mind for mobile workstations, All-in-One workstations, gaming platforms, desktop workstations, and more, the RocketStor 6114V supports RAID 0, 1, and 5, each of which will provide users with performance, data redundancy, or a combination of both. For those who do not require a RAID, JBOD and Single Disk modes are also available. When configured as RAID 0, this enclosure can achieve sustained reads of up to 500 MB/s and sustained writes of up to 470 MB/s, while a RAID 5 configuration allows for sustained reads of up to 450 MB/s and sustained writes of up to 220 MB/s.

The RocketStor 6114V has four hot-swappable drive bays that support 3.5" and 2.5" SATA hard drives and SSDs. All of the drive bays feature LEDs noting power and drive activity, and the 6114V is also equipped with one 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Type-C port, which is also known as USB 3.1 Gen 2. The USB 3.1 Type-C port is compatible with 5 Gb/s USB 3.0, 480 Mb/s USB 2.0, and supports the USB Attached SCSI Protocol (UASP).

Using the RocketStor Manager Solution, novices and experts will be able to configure, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot RAID configurations and individual storage devices from a user-friendly web-based interface. Using advanced management features, users will also be able to configure e-mail notifications to inform others of changing storage conditions while outside of the work environment and manage storage remotely via a local network connection.

HighPoint's RocketStor 6114V 4-Bay USB 3.1 RAID Enclosure is cooled using an 80 x 80 x 20mm fan and is powered by an internal 100-240V power supply that runs at 50-60 Hz. It is compatible with Windows and Mac OS and includes 4 x drive trays, 1 x USB Type-A to Type-C cable (3.3'), 1 x UL power cord, 16 x 3.5" mounting screws, and 2.5" mounting screws. Protection is provided by a limited 1-year warranty.

Add RAID 5 Storage to Systems with a USB Type-C or Type-A Port
The RocketStor 6114V's adoption of the widely accessible USB interface means it is compatible with nearly any computing system with USB ports. The RocketStor 6114V requires only a single cable between the enclosure and host system. The integrated 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 technology is fully backwards compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, and can also be used with USB Type-A connectors via the included cable adapter. To connect the RocketStor 6114V to systems with a USB Type-C port, please use the HighPoint USB-C31-1MC cable (sold separately).
Designed with Scalability and Flexibility in Mind
The RocketStor 6114V's open approach to storage applications allows customers to use their choice of SATA drive from major drive brands including HGST, Seagate, Toshiba, and WDC. HighPoint 6114V reviews

RocketStor 6114V 4-Bay USB 3.1 RAID Enclosure is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice unit but Noisy This is a well constructed unit with one aggravating flaw, a noisy fan. Could not believe how noisy the fan gets when it kicks in after 30+ minutes of run time. Thanks to Andrew, I purchased the super quiet Noctua fan and what a difference that made. Installation was not difficult but requires time and some patience to swap out the fan. Cannot understand why HightPoint cannot use high quality $18 fan instead that is far superior. Except for this flaw, this unit is well made and meets or exceeds all the performance criterion. Giving it only 4 stars instead of 5 because of the fan noise and the fact that I had to fix it myself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3 EASY Steps! Create RAID5 Just No-Brainer For several years now, I'd been using the same Drobo USB enclosure for Video/photos backups. It's been solidly reliable, but was no longer able to keep up with my current workload. The 6114V looked like it would make a good upgrade, provided it worked as advertised. After weeks of use, I can happily report that it indeed does. It is very fast - comparable to Thunderbolt 3 for half the price. During my initial tests I was able to consistently transfer a 3.65GB video file from the iMac to a 4-drive RAID 5 array in a little over 40 seconds - this number is very close to the claimed 400MB/s spec. It has been very predictable and consistent over the long term as well. Notably, the software is surprisingly polished for something in this price range. The setup wizard lets you create a RAID in 3 steps by clicking a few icons. Everything is ready to use in less than a minute, no I/T skills required. I am more than satisfied with this enclosure. Good price, well made, and actually meets the performance claims. One possible caveat - in order to use it with new Macbooks/iMacs, you will need a separate USB-C to USB-C cable for Thunderbolt 3 connections.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better Performance and Features than most USB 3 RAID My Environment / Use - Been using for about 2-3 months - 4x3TB 7200RPM HGST Enterprise drives in RAID5 (all ~3 years old) - USB 3 connection to Mac Mini (2014) - Final Cut Pro, Adobe Lightroom Pros: - unlike most cheaper USB RAID enclosures, this has full SATA-III internal connectivity, and USB 3.1 with UASP externally for much higher USB 3/3.1 throughput (up to 10Gbit/s with USB 3.1/UASP) - my setup (RAID5) gets 206MB/s write, 346MB/s read over USB3.0/UASP (5Gbit/s) to my Mac Mini. This will vary depending on what drives you use and what machine you connect it to, and what RAID level you use (I have seen reports of much faster throughput over USB 3.1/UASP) - Browser based config is easy to use and quite full featured - Driver for macOS has been stable so far and HighPoint has been actively releasing updates (I have seen one so far.) - Works fine with either HFS+ or APFS on the Mac. Cons - Internal fan may be too noisy, and is only on or off. (I replaced it with a quiet Noctua fan, don't tell anyone :) - Runs warm (although this is likely due to the drives I am using. More modern NAS drives, like WD Reds, may run much quieter/cooler.) - Command-line management (if you care) is only available on Windows. Conclusion: For the price, performance and reliability have been excellent. Might be too noisy for desktop use in a quiet environment, might be less of an issue depending on what drives you use. Overall very happy with the unit and would definitely recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value RAID - a bit noisy... Good performance over USB 3.1. The fan is a little noisy so if you don't like background hum or work in a quiet room, this isn't the RAID you've been looking for - move on! Otherwise, its easily fast enough to edit 2K video in real time and possibly 4K if you have USB 3.1 and the correct cable.
