Mackie 624 Overview

The Mackie MR624 Studio Monitor is a powered 6.5" 2-way reference speaker that is designed for mixing and monitoring in your home or project studio. It features a logarithmic waveguide system that aims to minimize reflections and diffractions for a wider sweet spot, plus a custom-tuned rear port to help ensure an even bass response.

The MR624 is equipped with matched amps and drivers for an optimized 65W Class-AB biamplified system. The speakers can also be optimized to your mixing environment with the adjustable acoustic space filters designed to maintain a flat response in typical placement configurations. Additionally, a high-frequency filter applies a boost or cut to compensate for particularly bright- or dull-sounding rooms.

The MR624 has been designed with flexibility in mind, featuring XLR, TRS, and RCA monitor inputs. The speaker has been housed in an all-wood cabinet that has been treated with acoustic absorption material for a tighter response. Additionally, the MRS10 studio subwoofer can be added for a more powerful, extended low end.

Mackie 624 Reviews

I really like them

I came from Mackie MR5 mk1's that I owned for many many years. These have a deeper, tighter bass. I like the high end through these too. It's not brash. Sound stage is pretty wide. I briefly owned Kali LP6 but returned them due to the noisey Class D amps that sounded like a waterfall (white noise) in a quieter room from 2-3 feet away. These Mackies have a Class A/B amp design that is much much quieter. Plus the Mackies just sound tighter to my ears. Esp in the low end. More mid definition too compared to the Kali monitors. The enclosure of the Kalis was a flexy cheap plastic. These Mackies are a lot more sturdy. I'm happy. I would probably give these a 4.5/5 if I could. And the LP6 a 3.

Mackie always delivers

Coming from MR5's Mk1 these are a great upgrade. Also more stylish for our studio than the JBL's or others that have that lacquer-finish plastic all over it.

question

Ok, silly question...where to I connect my red and black speaker wire from my pre-amp?
Asked by: David
There is an RCA input connection on the back of each of these speakers for an unbalanced audio signal. If you have speaker cables, which carry audio as well as power, then you would require passive speakers; such as two of the Alesis Elevate 6 Passive - 6 Desktop Studio Monitor, (B&H # ALELEVATE6PA.)

Do the transformer that power the class a/b amp hum?

No, the power transformer in the Mackie MR624 Powered Studio Monitor should not create hum.
