Glyph Technologies Blackbox Plus External SSD Overview

Sporting 10 Gb/s USB-C, the bus-powered 2TB Blackbox Plus USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 External SSD from Glyph Technologies can easily be plugged into systems running Windows Vista or later and macOS 10.4 and later without the need for an external power source. In addition to USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 compatibility, the Blackbox Plus also supports Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, making it both rugged and versatile.

Once connected, this solid-state drive supports data transfer rates of up to 560 MB/s to enhance workflows and transfer important files to and from the drive quickly and efficiently. Once files are stored, the Blackbox Plus can be taken with you out into the field, as its rubber housing helps to protect against the elements. The Blackbox Plus comes formatted for Mac and may be used with Windows after a simple reformat. Included with this drive is a USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A cable. Protection is provided by a limited 1-year advanced replacement warranty and a limited 3-year hardware warranty.

Purchased the 2TB SSD version to accompany me on the road. For photo editing workflows on the road, there are absolutely no hindrances with this drive. It's a little bigger than your typical SSD, but I like the rubberized enclosure (probably one of the reasons you're looking at it too). BUT, ditch the included USB-C cable and replace it with a more flexible one.

I was in need to find ASAP a fast and reliable SSD as my Mac's internal SSD is filled to the top and I was recommended to "off-shore" the (audio) libraries to an external one. I was concerned with a speed as to have fast load up times and seamless streaming is an essential feat. Even-though I could not take an advantage of the new gen of USB3 that the disk supports and I am "only" getting about 250/300 MB/s read/write speeds, it is still super fast for all the work and tests I have done so far. It's blazingly fast and the load times for my sound libraries, loops, orchestral sounds are instant! I am happily overwhelmed and I am thankful to go for friends' recommendation for Glyph. IT's plug and play on Mac. I had 3 drives from Crucial that kept failing (that's for another review & stay clear of those products) but so far the Blackbox works stunningly well! Well worth of the investment and keep an eye on the instant rebate that expires soon!

It says thunderbolt 3 in the description but doesnt seem to have a port?
