If you need a quick and easy backup workflow solution for production through post, use YoYotta LTFS Software for macOS to backup, verify, and index your camera cards, hard drives, and tapes. YoYotta LTFS includes all the features of YoYotta and adds the ability to create archives in parallel to two standalone LTO drives using LTFS. Backing up is as easy as 1. add sources, 2. add destinations, and 3. backup. The YoYotta software uses its own YFS file system and will do the work of indexing all your video, audio, and metadata to a local database, allowing you to search and restore when needed.

The search function allows you to search through all your media metadata by numerous tags such as codec, resolution, duration, and FPS. Reporting functions include CSV and PDF reporting to print detailed reports and audits for presentation. Since YoYotta runs on macOS, it can also integrate with Apple file permissions and send email alerts. Other security functions include: calculating an MD5 checksum during copy without slowing the process, independent verify, and only mounting source media in read-only mode.

To share quickly with multiple departments, or even just for peace of mind, cards can simultaneously copy to multiple backup destinations. You can pause and resume the backups, span across multiple volumes, and no matter how large your database is, YoYotta has no file size limitations. The software will make sure your clips remain whole and won't split them apart if a target volume becomes full.

YoYotta LTFS also allows archiving to LTO-8, LTO-7, LTO-6, or LTO-5 tapes. LTFS format is cross-platform and can be read on Linux, Windows, and macOS. The software allows you to create two parallel archives to LTO drives, and allows the same verify operations and the same search functions as any YoYotta volume for future restoration.

Built-In Project and Metadata Store
All media metadata is stored in a local YFS (YoYotta File System) database. An index of the project video, audio, and metadata files will also be stored. Use YoYotta to catalog your drives, volumes, and tapes.
Smart Queuing
LTFS does allow access from the desktop, but it is not the fastest way to read and write. LTFS cannot be accessed in parallel. YoYotta has a smart queue, so multiple backups to tape can be started and they will be processed in order.
Search for Assets
YoYotta stores full media metadata including codec, resolution, and duration. It's quick to locate the media and you can see where it's stored. Open a virtual folder showing all the media from your search in one place. Make PDF reports from searches, handy to give the producer a list of shoot durations for all media types.
Fast and Secure
As soon as camera cards or drives are connected they will appear on the left in the Media table. Source drives are mounted read-only preventing accidental erasure. YoYotta calculates an MD5 checksum whilst copying and then verifying it without any slowdown. See how long the backup will take. When completed, the green ticks will show that all is correct and a PDF report will keep an audit of the files copied.
Simple Media Management
YoYotta's software runs on Apple's Mac hardware. On a production, use a Mac mini or Retina MacBook Pro, or use an iMac or MacPro in a cutting room or post house. Connect using USB 3.0/3.1 to Media Readers and Thunderbolt to RAID storage. Receive email alerts, create PDF reports, and ensure file permissions are set correctly.
Multiple Media and Backups
Cards can be simultaneously copied to multiple backup destinations. Copy multiple cards at once, or add them to a queue for sequential backup, limited only by the speed of connected storage. Stop an import and pickup later, and span large backups across multiple volumes, disks, and tapes.
LTFS Archiving
Linear Tape File System (LTFS) is a standard format for writing files to tape. It's ideal for storing production and post media as the LTO tapes can be mounted and read on Linux, macOS, and Windows. You aren't locked into a proprietary archive. Quickly create industry standard archives on LTO-8, LTO-7, LTO-6, LTO-5, tapes and you can even restore TAR LTO tapes. YoYotta names, formats, mounts, and repairs tape archives. During the archive YoYotta calculates MD5 checksums and then automatically uses these to read back and verify every file. YoYotta remembers the contents of every tape created, so later on you can search to find the location of shots.
Unlimited Backup Size
If you start a large backup or archive that won't fit on a single volume, YoYotta will intelligently fill each volume without splitting shots. Keep adding volumes until the backup is complete. The reports and the database will keep track of where the shots are archived. YoYotta LTFS will span the backup across multiple tapes. Separately available YoYotta Automation makes it even easier using an LTO Tape Library to backup your SAN without needing to manually swap tapes.
Independent Verify
Each backup is independently verified, which reduces the verify time. Media cards can be ejected and removed as soon as verifying starts.
Organize your Media
YoYotta can make consistent folders based on Project, Day, Date, Camera, and Media names. This version has flexible tokens for folder names, and presets are automatically recalled for different camera types.
Reporting
YoYotta creates a PDF report which can be automatically emailed to all team members without needing to set up any email software. The report contains the media checksums for future reference along with media codec, duration, and resolution. This metadata is also in the database and stored as extended attributes in the file directory.
Selective Import
Say the client brings their slow, messy USB drive into your post house. When you connect the drive, YoYotta will show all the file types, allowing you to select just the ones you need and quickly transfer just those files. The original folder structure will be preserved on the destination. YoYotta also knows about sidecar files, so if you select MOV you will also get THM, and if you select R3D you will also get RMD.
Preview Selected Files
You can preview file information; for example, you can easily see that there are over 6 hours of MP4 files on the shuttle drive. Select MP4 in the Type table and press the space key and then YFS will show you all those files in a single Finder window.
Smart Queue
If you need to copy multiple high-speed cards to the same RAID, then it's often quicker to process them sequentially rather than simultaneously. But this would mean waiting for each backup to complete. YoYotta will offer to add the backups into a queue so you can walk away and let it run, and alert you once each is completed.
