NewTek NDIHX-PTZ1 overview

  • 1Description

Designed for modern production facilities and workflows, the NewTek NDIHX-PTZ1 NDI PTZ Camera combines both standard SDI and HDMI connections as well as Ethernet/NDI network connectivity for HD video streaming, recording, and broadcasting. While full functionality can be achieved through the classic SDI and serial connectors, what differentiates this camera is the NDI connectivity. Using the RJ-45 connector at the rear, the NDIHX-PTZ1 can output HD video and audio while receiving control signal and power over a single connection. Pan, tilt, zoom, recording settings, and more can be adjusted remotely over Ethernet. No need for confusing multi-cable setups, simply install the camera and connect it to your existing network infrastructure to use it alongside your other video sources to expand your studio setup with minimal hassle.

    NewTek NDIHX-PTZ1 reviews

NDIHX-PTZ1 NDI PTZ Camera is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not ready for prime time We bought 4 of these. I'm a huge NewTek supporter, but I am really disappointed by this camera. The control capability through the TriCaster leaves a LOT to be desired as the TriCaster doesn't reliably remember the focus or iris settings in the presets. In addition, the NDI delivery stream is bugged and unuseable. (The image 'pulses' every second over NDI - not over SDI.) We bought 4 of these cameras to accompany our TriCaster 8000 and Talkshow 4000 - and ended up returning all 4.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Network limitations I envisioned a camera I could bring to any room with an Ethernet port, plug in, and see it on my Tricaster. But, there is a significant network limitation you should be aware of: the NDI signal cannot pass between subnets on your network (at least without significant network restructuring by IT). The camera works as advertised if it's on the same subnet as the Tricaster. However, in a large facility like ours there are multiple subnets. Our IT department now has to designate one port in each wing's telecom closet as the camera port, and I have to go into the closet and patch into that port to make the camera work. It works, but it's cumbersome.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well on a dedicated network Others seem to be trying to integrate these into an existing network. For best results, use a dedicated network. I used two of these on a large live streaming project and they worked quite well. No problems with the image via NDI. I did run SDI to one of them as a backup, but that proved to be unnecessary. There is a bug somewhere in the TC1/Control Surface system that caused the UP and DOWN on the joystick to have opposite results. I'm sure that will be worked out shortly. I'm very excited to have audio, video, control, power and tally over one inexpensive cable!
