Rollei Retro 400S 120 Reviews

Weak shadows

This is my second time shooting and processing retro 400s. Rated the first time @ iso 200 developed 1:1 in Xtol. Shadow detail was almost non-existent. Second time same iso but developed in Ilfotec ddx. As the massive dev chart does not offer times for iso 200 at all I went with 10 minutes standard time for 400 iso 1:4 knowing highlights might be dense. Highlights were dense but printable but shadows were still too thin. Next trial will be iso100 ddx 1:4 @ 8:5 minutes, holding back highlight development but boosting shadow exposure. We’ll see. I like the grain, edge definition, and transparent film base but probably won’t replace hp5 for me. Will review again with new test results.
