RF Venue DFIN Overview

The black RF Venue Diversity Fin is a multi-purpose antenna that reduces dropouts using a proprietary, cross-polarized hybrid design. It is compatible with diversity wireless microphone systems of any brand. The antenna comes equipped with a wall-mount bracket for permanent installations.

The Diversity Fin combines one LPDA and one dipole antenna in an orthogonal (right-angle) configuration. One element captures vertically polarized waves and the other horizontally polarized waves—doing the same job as two shark-fin paddles. This design greatly improves RF and audio performance in high-profile live sound events, film and TV productions, or routine installations in schools and houses of worship.

To use, just connect both the A and B outputs (coaxial cables available separately) to any antenna distribution system or wireless receiver, and point the antenna toward the stage.

RF Venue DFIN Reviews

Fantastic option for dual diversity receiver!

This antenna paired with a Shure UA844+SWB and a pair of Sennheiser EW-DX receivers for four channels of wireless mics. Reception from the RF Venue Diversity Fin is exceptional and provided dropout free performance where the antenna was indoors pointed toward and outdoor Wedding Ceremony location - line of sight through glass/walls at about 100 feet with two lav transmitters in groom and officiant's pockets and a EW-DX handheld on a stand. Not ideal re lav placement but very typical. Signal received strength was almost 4/5 or full bars as indicated on the EW-DX receivers with a 10mw output. I like this over the Shure LDPA's since I can place this on a tall weighted base mic stand vs other antenna / stand combinations. This setup is SOLID! I would buy this antenna again.

Must Have

This is a must have for Shure SLX receivers. I've many other antennas and only this one works with no issues.

Do you need to buy 2 of these or will 1 work? How many wireless receivers will 1 antenna supply RF for?
Asked by: kurt
There are two antennae (omni and directional) in the RF Venue Diversity Fin Antenna with Stand Mount for Wireless Microphone Systems, with two BNC output connections, so a single unit will serve the function of two antennae. The number of receivers relies on implementing an appropriate antenna distribution system and is usually between 1-8 receivers.

Why does it not have a gain switch to account for the signal loss within the BNC cable?
Asked by: Bryan
The RF Venue Diversity Fin Antenna with Stand Mount for Wireless Microphone Systems (Black, 470 to 698 MHz) does not include a gain feature as it is a passive antenna. Active antennas can pose risks such as overloading the RF front end of a receiver system, and you can easily overload by using an active antenna’s gain control at a setting that is disproportionally strong for the cable run’s length. A good practice would be to implement passive antennas, and then only add in-line amplifiers to make up for transmission line loss if doing very long cable runs of more than 100 feet.

Can I use this with Lectrosonics systems and if so, how do I hook it up to my transmitter/receiver/mixer?
Asked by: Jens
Yes, the RF Venue Diversity Fin Antenna with Stand Mount for Wireless Microphone Systems is compatible for use with Lectrosonics wireless receivers operating within the 470-608MHz range. The Diversity Fin has two BNC connections onboard for connecting to corresponding receiver antenna outputs. If you are using multiple receivers, you can connect them all to a single diversity fin using an antenna distribution system. Can you use one element at a time in non-diversity mode? E.G. I want to use only the LDPA antenna on occassion
Asked by: Ben
Yes, you can use one element at a time because there are separate A and B outputs on the RF Venue Diversity Fin Antenna with Stand Mount for Wireless Microphone Systems (Black, 470 to 698 MHz).

Can this item be mounted on a standard C-stand stud?
Asked by: kurt
Yes, the RF Venue Diversity Fin Antenna with Stand Mount can be mounted on a standard C-stand stud. You will need a 5/8" receiver adapter with a male thread on the other end. The antenna features a mounting block with 1/4"-20, 3/8"-16, and 5/8"-27 threads to secure it on the stand, so you have plenty of flexibility for the adapter. The Manfrotto 014-38 Rapid Adapter - 5/8" Stud to 3/8" Thread (B&H # MA01438) is one example of an adapter that can be used.

Asked by: dicky
The RF Venue Diversity Fin has 1/4"-20, 3/8"-16, and 5/8"-27 mounting threads, but it does not have any mechanism for mounting on a bag or flat surface.
