Gitzo GSF38S Reviews

important addition to a Gitzo carbon fiber tripod

This should prove very useful to have when shooting landscapes in terrain needing a wider footplate and/or secured with a spike. Haven't yet flown with it in my checked luggage, but I suspect their image on x-ray will lead to hands-on inspection before being placed in the luggage compartment. I plan on placing them in a transparent bag to facilitate any security searches.

Product as advertised, very solid and well made. First package was missing a piece (first time in ~20 orders) and B&H fixed it right away without an issue. As an international customer returns can be lengthy and expensive. B+H made it easy.

Should have been included as the standard accessory

I bought these feet for a Gitzo Systematic tripod. The 2016 models does not come with these spike feet with rubber caps. Only the older ones do. Spike feet are almost a necessity when working on soft ground, including indoor carpet. These seem to be an improved design and were unavailable at the time of my tripod purchase. I chose the extra long spikes instead. An inconvenience of the long spikes is that they don't have rubber caps. I assemble and disassemble the feet for the work every time they are needed, as you simply don't want to put the tripod with spike feet on into a bag. The short spike feet with caps solves the problem. The tips of these feet are actually pointier than the extra long feet. That's better for carpet actually. However, if you are in a situation where the ground is thick and soft mud, the extra long spike feet are more useful. The short spikes are just long enough for the tip of the tripod legs to stay above my home carpet. That's still when the tripod is opened to the first angle. They don't work well when the tripod legs are spread further.

Good, but not perfect

With spikes and rubber those feet keep the tripod stable in almost any terrain. Also, the rubber feet are large, giving great stability. One caveat: while fully screwed in, the spikes do loosen with shake, eg an off-road drive, and can come off (happened twice so far).

Replaced the feet on my Gitzo Traveler 2545 Series 2 tripod with these short spikes and rubber feet—added more functionality and little increase in weight.

My order arrived without two of the spikes in the package, but customer service quickly rectified their mistake by sending a replacement order. B&H is the best!

What size do I need for my Gitzo GIGT2545T Traveler Series 2 Carbon Fiber Tripod?

I’m not 100% sure without double checking, but off the top of my head I recall that they’re all standard size threads (uniform and sized the same) for the majority of replacement feet. I did purchase them for my Gitzo Systemic Series (they were properly threaded) and decided to return them and replace them with Really Right Stuff rock claws, which seem to have a bit more surface area (similar to a snowshoe), to prevent digging in -and now I see that there are quite a few other companies that are making similar products that don’t cost $33 apiece. The one caveat: this type of foot has very sharp edges and will cut through your tripod bag if you do not remove them before travel. This may be a consideration since the small Gitzo feet come with protective rubber covers that can be used when the ground is dry. [TA-3-FRC Pod Foot Rock Claw]

Unfortunately, the GT1545T cannot accept these feet, as the replacement feet use a 1/4-20" thread.

The spikes fits 3/8"-16 threaded, but the spike hole on Gitzo 1545T is 1/4"-20 so it won't fit.
