The Magewell USB Capture SDI Gen 2 is a slim and compact dongle that lets you easily import an SDI signal into your computer for recording or streaming. It provides a handy and efficient way of connecting cameras, decks, switchers, and other broadcast and surveillance equipment to your computer. Furthermore, it doesn't require any additional drivers to be installed, and thereby is compatible with various software and web applications (see below) on Mac, Windows, Linux, and Chrome OS, and works by simple plug-and-play connection.

This Gen 2 version supports input/output resolutions up to 2048 x 1080 (2K) at 60 Hz. Using an included mini-coax to SDI adapter cable, connect any 3G/HD/SD-SDI source to the dongle, and output it to your computer with embedded audio over a USB 3.0 cable, which is also supplied. The USB port and USB cable are also backward-compatible with USB 2.0.

If you want to stream or record at a lower resolution than what's being captured, you can pull up the "Filters Properties Dialog Window" in the software you use and adjust parameters to downscale (or upscale)/deinterlace the image, as well as adjust brightness and other image properties. The device is also designed to work continuously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Magewell 32070 Reviews

Connecting cable poor quality.

Took the unit out of the shipping case. Put it in my gear bag. Due to situations at the church, haven't used it yet. But when I went in my gear backpack, the end had already broken off of my unused Magewell Captured card. No care for durability of the cable detected. Returning for a replacement.

Don't bump it while in use

The USB connection is too sensitive to movement in my opinion. For the price, the unit should be more stable than what it is. I would look for a different option if available.

Cautious optimism with Linux

I ordered five of these for use with Linux based systems. Two of the five had to be sent back due to performance issues with Zoom. I have other Magwell USB Capture Gen2 units that use the HDMI input (instead of SDI). Those have been rock solid with Linux boxes. I suggest staying away from these when having an SDI video feed and Linux.

Plug and Stream

Used this with a PTZ Optics camera and it was plug, play and stream! SDI adapter cable looks fragile so will be securing it accordingly. It did not like being plugged into a USB hub but could have been a compatibility issue or simply too many devices on a single connection.

Great except for non standard

Plug and play, works well and doesn’t require driver installation with Windows 10. My only complaint is that the SDI input into the Magewell is a MCX port. The included cable is a MCX to female BNC but is very thin and if damaged, I’m sure I’d have to do some searching or contact Magewell for a replacement. I really wish the card was larger in size and had the standard BNC female connector.

Great Capture card!

We use these with our PTZ Optics cameras to convert SDI to USB. We have had zero issues with latency or image degradation.

Could you conceivably stream multiple cameras using multiple Magewell dongles on the same laptop?
Asked by: Kyle
It is possible, but you would need a very powerful computer to be able to handle multiple of such a capture device. Not sure it would be optimal with a laptop.

question

Is this compatible with Blackmagic HDMI-to-SDI micro converter? I have a Panasonic GH5 which only has HDMI output. I'll connect the GH5 to the Blackmagic micro converter, then run a long SDI cable to the Magewell. My laptop will be very far away from the camera so I need the SDI version of the Magewell. Thanks! God bless!
Asked by: clyde
While we have not used this equipment, we see no reason it will not work as you wish. Keep in mind he camera cannot output 4K over HDMI, only HD.
